A Message From Principal Glenn

Dear BHMS Community:
As we continue to implement the new weapons detection system on our campus, we gain insights into opportunities to shorten the entry times for students and how to best support arrival during inclement weather days.
Screening Times: Today, screening began at 8:20 a.m. and wrapped up at 8:57 a.m., about 12 minutes past our regular start time of 8:45 a.m. To help shorten this window moving forward, we'll begin opening the entrance at the bus loop at 8:10 a.m. Students who arrive early can enter at that time and head to the cafeteria for breakfast or wait there until it's time to go to class at 8:20 a.m.
Locker Assignments: Students will be assigned their lockers tomorrow. After the lockers are allocated, we encourage students to store items such as 3-ring binders in their lockers if they do not need to take them home. This practice will help reduce the need for secondary screening and make entry even more efficient.
Inclement Weather Plan: In the event of inclement weather, we will make the following adjustments to ensure a smooth and safe entry process:
Students who typically enter through the main entrance will instead enter through the Adams Street entrance and line up inside the building to proceed through the weapons detection system.
Students who enter through the Kings Highway entrance will continue to use those doors, but will also line up inside the building before screening.
We also want to use this opportunity to remind families of the importance of completing the Annual Data Update, which is the best way to verify or provide your notification and emergency contact information. Information on completing the ADU is available here.
At the City Schools of Decatur, the safety of every student is our highest priority. We appreciate the ongoing support from our school community.
Sincerely,
Alexis Glenn
