The Coming of the Universe

The First Great Lesson is one of five lessons in Montessori curriculum called The Great Lessons. In these lessons, students are introduced to the history of the universe and their place within it (more information on Cosmic Curriculum coming soon!). In the First Great Lesson, students are presented a story of how the universe began up to how planets were formed. This lesson provides a broad overview with the intention of sparking interest and curiosity. Through follow up lessons, students dive deeper into various concepts and areas of study based on curriculum plans as well as personal interest.

Nature and Science Shelves

After the Great Lesson the students were guided through some new works placed in our science and nature area in the classroom. We pulled out lots of space materials which help students discover more about the universe, galaxy and planet we live on. They have been encouraged to find interesting pieces of nature to add to our nature shelf throughout the last couple of weeks. They have enjoyed taking a closer look at these natural materials using magnifying glasses.

Happy Birthday Maria!!

“Education between the ages of six to twelve is not a direct continuation of that which has gone before, though it is built upon that basis. Psychologically there is a decided change in personality, and we recognize that nature has made this a period for the acquisition of culture, just as the former was for the absorption of the environment.”
