CELC News & Updates

CELC Families,

CELC students will participate in our annual parade around campus on Tuesday, October 31st. Parents are invited to stay to watch our lil Cubs parade around the school. The parade will begin about 9:15 a.m. I am excited to see the costumes this year. They are always so ADORABLE!

We have noticed an increase in parents parking in the red zones out front, in the bus lane, in front of the rolling gate, and even blocking the crosswalk. We understand that it is busy, but please, for the safety of our students and families, do not use these areas for drop off and pick up. We appreciate your support with our safety concerns.

Students have been completing 1:1 assessments with the teachers. We are excited to share their progress with you at parent/teacher conferences.

If your student is going to be absent for an extended period, please make sure to request an Independent Study Contract from the office at least one week in advance. This will ensure that your child's teacher has ample time to prepare assignments, and your student can receive attendance credit during their absence.

Here are a few updates to help keep you informed:

Halloween costumes must be school appropriate and may not include weapons or blood and gore. Masks may be worn during the parade but not during the instructional day. Parents are encouraged to take masks home after the parade.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for the week of November 13th. TK and K students will be released at 12:15 p.m. M-F to allow time for teachers to meet with each parent.
Students are expected to follow school rules at all times. Please help support safe, responsible, and respectful behavior while you are on campus with them before and after school.

Attendance Matters

Building a habit of good attendance will help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally at school. Please limit absences that are not related to illness. If you know ahead of time that your child will be out for 3 or more days, please request an independent study contract to help keep them engaged in learning. Please take a moment to read the flyer below to learn more facts about attendance.

Please report any absences to your child's teacher and the office. Please let the office know the reason that your child is out and any symptoms if they are sick. Email Mary Barkely, our amazing Clerk or call the office at 619-659-8250.

Cubs in the Community

Mrs. Ripke will continue the Cubs in the Community tradition. Her goal is to connect with 100 Cubs (Future, Former, or Current) by the 100th day of school. Building relationships with our students is important to us! If you see Mrs. Ripke out in the community, encourage your student to say hi. Not only does it create an opportunity to connect, it also supports students' language and communication skills. Follow the sightings on FB and IG. Feel free to share our postings to spread the word. Mrs. Ripke (and the CELC staff) looks out for future, current, and former Cubs! She is ready to meet the 2023-24 challenge. See her latest sighting below!

CELC SCHEDULE

All TK classes are released at 1:35 pm daily until winter break. TK moves to the full day kindergarten schedule on Tuesday, January 9th. Lunch and recess times are subject to change based on enrollment and site needs.

Dismissal gates open at 1:30 pm and 2:45 pm. If you would like your student released early, please sign them out in the office.

Mark your calendars: We will have at 12:15 pm release November 13th-17th for Parent conferences. Lunch times are different this week.

School Rules

CELC has three school rules. Students will be learning behavior expectations that are aligned with being safe, responsible, and respectful. We practice Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We understand that our students are still learning to problem solve and deal with school expectations. We believe in progressive discipline and restorative practices. Teachers and staff document concerns and communicate them with parents to form a partnership in your child's success. We love our Cubs and are looking forward to having a year of fun, friendships, learning and laughter!

If you and your student have comedic talent, you are invited to submit a joke (written or video) to be shared in our weekly newsletter. All jokes must make us smile, be clean, follow school/district rules, and be age appropriate. Please fill out the Google Form to submit your joke. If you choose to do a video, attach it to the form.
