Gator News – Your Trusted Source

Dear Gator Families,

Welcome to this edition of The Gator Gazette! Our September newsletter is filled with exciting updates that celebrate our vibrant school community. Inside, you’ll find details about Homecoming, Spirit Week, and our upcoming Academic Achievement Assembly—each a wonderful opportunity to showcase the pride and excellence of Gateway Science Academy.

We also encourage everyone to stay connected beyond our school walls by getting involved with our local neighborhood associations, including Southwest Gardens, Northampton, The Hill, and South Hampton. Your participation strengthens our partnerships and helps GSA continue to thrive within the broader St. Louis community.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create memorable experiences for our students.

Warm regards,
Dr. Icel
Principal, Gateway Science Academy

Thank you for your patience as we worked to get our newsletter up and running! This section will focus on important topics that shape our school culture—such as schoolwide expectations, dress code and cell phone policy updates, social-emotional learning, and safety information.

In light of the medical emergency that occurred last Friday, we want to share a key safety protocol with you. If an ambulance must be called for a student or staff member, the school will enter a soft lockdown to protect the patient’s privacy until they are safely transported from the premises. During this time, students will remain in their classrooms (except in cases of true emergencies). Please note—this is not a threat-based lockdown. There is no need to barricade doors or take additional protective measures.

We will also continue to remind students of the importance of staying calm and avoiding cell phone use during these situations. Cell phones should not be in classrooms, but more importantly, false information or rushed reactions can cause unnecessary panic and create unsafe conditions. Please trust that accurate information will be communicated by school officials. Protecting the safety and well-being of everyone in our building is always our top priority.

I look forward to a strong school year together! If you have suggestions or questions, feel free to email me at jhibbler@gsastl.org. Please allow 24–48 hours for a response.

With Gator Gratitude,
Mrs. Hibbler

Assistant Principal of School Culture
