A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community Partners
The success of our Community Schools initiatives would not be possible without the generosity, dedication, and collaborative spirit of our community partners. This November, we proudly recognize the organizations supporting our scholars and families, including Fitness Martial Arts, The Game Room Club Company, Smile Maryland, LiveScan MD, United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP), Life Rescue Training, Hungry Harvest, the Prevention of Blindness Society, and our additional community supporters.Whether providing enrichment programs, health services, family resources, meals, or opportunities for engagement, these partnerships help us remove barriers, expand opportunities, and create an environment where scholars and families can flourish. Your partnership makes a difference, and we are truly grateful!
Together, We Are Stronger!
As we enter this season of gratitude, we want to thank our incredible families, dedicated staff, school leadership, and community partners for making Suitland Elementary School such a special place to learn, grow, and belong. ๐ก How Parents Can Support Student Success & Grades
Strong home-school partnerships make a big difference in academic success! Here are key ways families can help keep grades on track this school year:
๐ฑ Stay Connected with Synergy ParentVUE
Monitor Grades Weekly: Log into Synergy ParentVUE regularly to view current grades, test scores, and missing assignments.
Act Early: Don't wait for formal progress reports or report cardsโif you notice a drop in performance, reach out to your child's teacher right away.
๐ Take Advantage of Reassessment Opportunities
Request a Retake: In PGCPS, students and parents can request one additional opportunity to reassess qualifying assignments, activities, or tests.
Review & Practice: Before requesting a reassessment, review the returned material together, identify mistakes, and practice the concepts to ensure your student is prepared to demonstrate improved understanding.
๐ Prioritize Regular Attendance & Timely Make-Up Work
Maintain Consistent Attendance: Every instructional day counts! Frequent absences impact learning and grades.
Request Make-Up Work Promptly: For excused/lawful absences, request missed assignments within 48 hours. Completing and submitting make-up work promptly ensures students stay caught up with ongoing standards.
Unlawful (Unexcused) Absences: Missed work from unlawful absences cannot be made up. Teachers will record a 0 (zero) in Synergy with an "unlawful absence" comment.
๐ฏ Establish Home Routines & Utilize Academic Tools
Set Up a Dedicated Homework Space: Create a quiet, well-lit study area free from distraction to help children focus on daily reading and homework.
Leverage District Digital Tools: Encourage daily practice using district learning applications (such as i-Ready or Canvas) to reinforce core reading and math skills.
Communicate with School Counselors & Support Teams: If your child needs extra academic assistance or tutoring support, connect with school counselors or ask about extended learning/tutoring options.
