MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
CHS Community,
This has been quite the short and chilly week with TWO calamity days! As we gear up for next week, please take a moment to review and share the upcoming schedule changes with your student(s).
Next Week’s Highlights:
- We have two excellent assemblies planned for our students.
- One of the assemblies is the “Do It For James” presentation focusing on Sextortion.
We want all students to feel comfortable, so attendance at the assembly is optional. Please discuss with your child(ren) if they would prefer not to attend.
Thank you for your continued support as we provide meaningful opportunities for our students.
CONFERENCES
I want to remind you that our last conference day for the school year is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, from 4:30 to 8:00 PM. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with your child's teachers to discuss their progress and collaborate on success plans for the remainder of the year.
To schedule a conference, please use the link below:
CHS CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
If a teacher has reached out to you to schedule a conference, we kindly ask that you return their call or email as soon as possible. We are committed to connecting with as many families as possible during this final conference night to ensure student success as we head into the second half of the school year.

SCHEDULES FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 27
TUESDAY, January 28 - Do It For James
THURSDAY, January 30 - Battle in the Barn
We are excited to announce the return of the annual Battle in the Barn—a matinee wrestling match between Chardon and Riverside! This highly anticipated event will take place during the assembly period, giving students the opportunity to cheer on our wrestlers in an electrifying atmosphere.
Students will have the option to attend the match in the gym or report to the cafeteria for a quiet study hall. We would love to pack the Barn with enthusiastic support for our team as they compete in this spirited rivalry.
DO IT FOR JAMES
James Timothy Woods
James was a vibrant 17-year-old with a passion for running and a contagious personality. He was kind, funny, and loved by all. Tragically, James' life was cut short by cyberbullying and sextortion.
James Timothy Woods Legacy
Determined to prevent other families from experiencing their loss, James' parents, Tamia and Tim, founded the Do It For James Foundation. This non-profit organization aims to:
- Raise awareness: Educate the public about the dangers of cyberbullying and sextortion.
- Support mental health: Provide resources and assistance for those struggling with mental health issues.
- Empower youth: Encourage and support young people through scholarships and programs.
The Do It For James Foundation continues to honor James' memory by promoting kindness, supporting youth, and fighting against the forces that took his life.
On January 28th, Tamia and Tim will present to the Chardon community on three different occasions:
- CHS Assembly for students in grades 8-10
- CHS Assembly for students in grades 11-12
- Parent presentation @ CMS, LGIR starting at 7:00 PM
Students who do not wish to attend the assembly will be directed to the cafeteria.

ACT and PSAT PREPARATION SEMINARS
Chardon High School will host an ACT preparation seminar on Saturday, February 8th, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., here at the high school. Students will learn specific testing & time management strategies to help them score their highest on the ACT—all geared toward increasing their chances for admission & scholarship aid to their colleges of choice. This six-hour session is presented by Next Level Prep, a company known for its subject matter experts in test preparation & college admissions. We highly recommend this seminar for our 10th and 11th grade students who will take the ACT here at the school on March 11th.
Because we are hosting the seminar, the price for our students is $119 each, which also includes a comprehensive workbook, online testing access after the seminar, & free call-in tutoring.

PSAT 8/9 Seminar
This seminar is aimed at students taking their first college entrance exam-like assessment. Although the session is geared toward a general audience, only students who are academically able and serious will keep up with the pace that material is covered.
The seminar helps students understand the test structure, format, and adaptive component, as well as provides concrete test-taking and time management strategies to enable them to approach the test effectively, all of which will help them on future standardized tests. For the Reading & Writing portion of the test, we spend considerable time on how to address the range of difficulty of questions in each of the four academic content domains and 10 skill sets students will encounter. We then delve into mathematics concepts surrounding problem shortcuts and tricks that students can employ to speed through such problems on the test. Many of these types of problems appear on the PSAT/SAT to separate the most elite performers. Every student gets a reference workbook outlining the test structure and key strategies as well as a large collection of practice questions and answers from the College Board bank of questions.
Next Level Prep is a national leader in PSAT, SAT, & ACT preparation. We currently work with over 100 high schools here in Ohio alone & thousands of students (urban, suburban, & small town/rural) each year in states around the country. Our typical students see a 2.0 composite point increase on the ACT or an 80- point increase on the SAT after taking one of our seminars.
Our engaging instructors consistently score 94%-plus A ratings on student evaluations. So, students emerge justifiably confident—with decidedly less anxiety—about their prospects on the test.
To learn more about our seminars, access our brief, 3:32, informational video at
https://youtu.be/96iH4027ZgM or visit our website homepage https://nlpamerica.com.
Price is just $59 for Chardon High School students.
Register online at https://nlpamerica.com/product/chardon-hs-psat89-seminar-february-8-2025/, using a credit card for the $59 payment. Thank you!
**Please note that your high school asks us to conduct our PSAT seminars on a Saturday to keep regular academic classroom time intact.
