The Masque of the Red Death-Sophomore English The Masque of the Red Death-Sophomore English

~Jenny Yungeberg

The sophomores took part in a Masquerade Ball in English on Tuesday November 28. The activity was in conjunction with reading "The Masque of the Red Death" written by Edgar Allan Poe. The students created their own masks, dressed up, and even learned how to do the waltz. The students also enjoyed snacks, punch and review games of the story.

Titan Trailer Manufacturing Tour

Yesterday, Agriscience and Welding students visited Titan Trailer Manufacturing. Students got to see the step by step process of trailers being built from parts to complete, painted trailers. They also got some awesome advice on the importance of communication, work ethic and responsibility in the workplace setting.

This was an awesome tour and we left with an awesome message!

Day 2-Peppermint in your Pocket

Two staff members were given a peppermint before school started. Staff could ask their co-workers,"do you have a peppermint in your pocket?" You couldn't fib, if you got asked, you had to give it up. So at 3pm this day we called for the two people who were possessing the peppermints. Kim Oatney and Carrie Husband were our winners!!!!!

Santa's Gift Shop is always a Blast!!!!

For the past several years, Tony Yungeberg, along with his faithful helpers, have put together a wonderful shopping experience for all our young students. Special thanks goes out to Mrs. Lila Swearingen for stepping in for Tony to put this all together. Together with several students from the high school, they manage to allow most every child to shop for their families, all on their own. Gifts are donated by many in our community or purchased by our Community Ed. program. Hopefully each student can pick that something special for their family members.

A Letter from Mr. Savage

Parents – we need your help! You will find some information in this edition of our newsletter about a safety concern we have noticed during our junior high and high school basketball. All children are to be seated with their parents or the adults who brought them to the game during the entire night of action. We have had children run out on the floor as they are exiting the gym, playing in the commons, on the stage and in other areas of the building. We are doing this not only for the safety of our younger students but the safety of our athletes, game officials and patrons. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this issue!

We have a full calendar of activities for the final days of school as we inch closer to the end of first semester. Besides the usual high school and junior high basketball games in December we do have our 7-12 Christmas Concert on the 13th starting at 7:00 pm! Plan on joining us for this event that I am sure will put us fully into the Spirit of Christmas!

Another thing we are trying to make available for our parents is a schedule of games when we host or when we are on the road which includes a dismissal time and bus departure time as well! We do have to tell you that game schedules can change on the day of a game due to a variety of factors – weather conditions, players available, and illness. You can find this information on the USD489 webpage under events.

Have a great week!

Mr. Savage
