Stewardship in Action
What’s happening? Students are taking 5 minutes during the day to help tidy common areas like the playground and lunchroom.
Is this a punishment? No. In the past, cleaning might have been used as a consequence. We are flipping that script. We are using cleaning as a community-building tool.
How does this connect to learning? This connects to Restorative Practices. We are teaching students that a community relies on mutual respect. When we leave a mess, we impact others. When we clean up (even if it wasn't our specific mess), we are acting as guardians of our community. It builds a culture of gratitude and teamwork.
Home Connection: Ask your child, "How did you help your school community today?" If they mention picking up trash or wiping a table, celebrate that! Remind them that great leaders always take care of their team and their environment.

Character Trait Of The Month
Throughout the year, staff will be recognizing students who demonstrate different character traits each month. At the end of each month, teachers will select one student from their class who has best exemplified that month's trait to be celebrated and awarded a certificate in recognition of their character.
December's Character Trait: Kindness
We are building a culture of gratitude at school, and you can help reinforce it at home! Try these simple, powerful habits with your family:
1. “Kindness Check-ins” at Dinner
Have each family member share one kind thing they did and one kind thing someone did for them that day.
2. Model Apologies & Gratitude
Let kids hear adults say “I’m sorry” and “Thank you” sincerely—children learn kindness through observation.
3. Praise the Effort, Not Just the Outcome
Recognize moments of trying to be kind, even when it’s hard. This helps build empathy and resilience.
