Parent Conferences

Parent Conferences will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, which will be 1:20 dismissal days. I would like to share a couple of notes to consider:

  • In order for teachers to meet with all families, the conferences are generally limited to 10 minutes, so it is important to be on time so teachers can stay on schedule.
  • Conference time is to discuss your child's current progress...it is not an appropriate time to discuss class placement for next year (see notes below for that process).
  • It will be helpful for you to have reviewed your child's progress report (published in ASPEN) before your child's conference.
  • Thank you for partnering with us to support your child(ren)'s success!

Progress Reports

Progress reports are available to you in ASPEN as of Friday. It is important to note that Cohasset elementary schools utilize a standards-based progress report. As opposed to report cards, standards-based progress reports are formative, meaning they document current student performance based on the expectations at this point in the school year with the goal of students meeting grade level standards by the end of the school year. They represent a “moment in time”. Teachers will continue to address concepts that may not have been mastered yet as we move into term 3. All of that said...if you see Ps on your child's progress report, it is not cause for alarm. It means they are making progress and have not met mastery YET.

Below is a document that details how to find your child's progress report in their ASPEN account. If you run into trouble with ASPEN, email aspensupport@cohassetk12.org .

Kindergarten Registrations is 11 February- 17 April

Registration: 2/11-4/17

Kindergarten Screening: 19-20 May

Orientation: 4 June 6:00pm

Registration is initiated online on the Osgood Website. We would like families to be registered by 17 April, 2026 so that we can plan for screening as well as staffing for 2026-27. The number of kindergarteners enrolled directly affects the number of kindergarten teachers we have! This is vital information for staffing overall. After a family registers a student, they will receive an email to schedule a screening on 19 or 20 May. Screeners are used to create balanced classes and to begin to get to know our new students. Families will bring an original Birth Certificate to the screening so that we can take a copy.

Please contact the school for any questions:

How to Make a Plan Change
zoom_out_map Show in original size

Plan Changes on PUP

Please enter any dismissal changes into PickUp Patrol under :Dismissal Changes"...there is no need to write additional notes. You can add notes about reason for absences, etc. in the notes (Step 4 below). This includes:

  • absences
  • early dismissals
  • Enrichment classes
  • Change of Pick-up Person (must be on Aspen emergency contact list)

PickUp Patrol populates our lists for where we expect students to be for dismissal. So, if there are no changes, we will be expecting children to be where they go for their typical plan. The cut-off time to make changes is 2:00.

Let us know if you have any questions or have any input as you use the platform:

agaudette@cohassetk12.org or lgowell@cohassetk12.org.

2026-27 Class Placement

Like Deer Hill, Osgood staff are already beginning to prepare for the new school year. One important task we undertake is the creation of balanced classroom communities. We know that a positive, productive classroom environment is essential to student success, and forming balanced classes sets that stage.

The process of building classes is thoughtful and collaborative. Our teachers and specialists work together to consider both formal and informal data to ensure that each class is well-rounded and supportive of all students’ needs. Some of the factors we take into account include:

  • Academic strengths and needs: Using current assessment data and teacher observations, we aim to create classrooms where students can learn from and with each other.

  • Social-emotional considerations: We consider each child's unique personality, friendships, and social dynamics to help foster a supportive and respectful classroom culture.

  • Learning styles and support services: We factor in students who may benefit from specific teaching approaches, as well as those receiving additional services such as special education or reading/math specialist support.

  • Gender balance and overall class size: We strive for equitable representation and manageable class sizes across all grade-level classrooms.

This process takes time and care. We value each child as an individual and work to place them in a classroom where they will thrive both academically and socially. While we do not accept specific teacher requests, please know that your child’s well-being and success are always our top priorities in this process. If you feel there is important information about your child that we should consider during class placement, we invite you to share that with us in writing by May 2nd. You can email Mrs. Gaudette at agaudette@cohassetk12.org or your child's teacher.

We appreciate your trust in our professional judgment and collaboration in making the best decisions for our students.

Thank you for your continued support.

Be Part of a Service Project!

From Monday, March 23rd through Friday, April 10, a Cohasset 8th grader, Amanda Magri, is collecting clothing for Cradles to Crayons. Please consider dropping off gently used or new children's clothing to boxes in our school lobby. If easier, please feel free to email Amanda’s mom at colleenmagri@yahoo.com to arrange for a pick-up at your home. All donated clothing and shoes will be brought to Cradles to Crayons in Newton to help kids in Massachusetts facing clothing insecurity.

Calling All Green-Minded Caregivers!

PSO is partnering with us to create a group of caregivers who would support the Osgood in going more green. Julia Hook, parent of twin kindergarteners, is helping to coordinate a Green Team, who will focus on maximizing our garden usage and expanding into more green activities such as recycling, composting, riding and walking to school, etc.

We believe in not only teaching valuable green habits, but involving students and community in as many ways as possible. However, we cannot do it alone. If you are interested in being a part of this effort, please reach out to Julia Hook at Jul3306@gmail.com

Resources for Families Who Receive SNAP Benefits

If your family is impacted by the potential loss of SNAP benefits, we encourage you to reach out to your child's school counselor or the following Cohasset community resources. You are not alone. We are here to help and support you.

What Expertise Can YOU Offer Our Students?

Cohasset is a community comprised of experts in a wide variety of fields. In order to deliver more authentic, hands-on, project-based learning experiences to students, the Cohasset School Committee, in collaboration with district leadership, is working to develop a "Community Resource Guide." This Guide will serve as an invaluable resource to our classroom teachers and school staff, as it will provide them with a comprehensive database of all stakeholders and interested parties who are willing to share their background, experience, and expertise in furtherance of our mission to Empower Students to Improve Communities.

There are many different ways in which one might participate in this endeavor, including classroom presentations, hosting or facilitating field trips, creating shadow or internship opportunities, or assisting with project-based learning experiences.

If you are willing to share your unique talents, passions, interests, and/or expertise, please click this link to fill out a brief interest form. We thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time in order to deliver impactful learning experiences to CPS students.

Onward and Upward,

Your School Committee
