A Message from the Nest A Message from the Nest

As we wrap up the first quarter, we want to take a moment to celebrate the hard work and progress our students have made so far!

This is also a great time to pause, reflect, and refocus on the expectations that help every student soar - academics, behavior and attendance. Our shared goal is to ensure each student leaves high school prepared for college, a career, or wherever their dreams may lead. Success truly takes a partnership between school and home, and we’re so thankful for your continued support, encouragement, and teamwork in helping our students reach their full potential.

We aRe Ready to learn …….We aRe Respectful to others…….. We aRe Responsible to ourselves ………...We aRe a thousand passions with one heartbeat, We aRe Chapin!

11th tardy: In School Suspension (ISS) - Administrator contacts parent

(Seniors who receive ISS must take all Senior exams)

🪑Attendance policies. Please watch the this video for full details on District Five’s updated procedures for Seat Time and Truancy, especially if you are the parent of a new student to Chapin High School.
Key Points:

  • Seat Time: Max 10 absences in a year-long course or 5 in a semester course. All absences (medical, parent note, suspension, etc.) count toward this limit. Absences 11-20 in a year-long class or 6-10 in a semester class will require seat time recapture to be completed. Exceeding the limit results in a grade of FA (Failure due to Absence) and a 0.0 GPA value unless seat time is made up during recapture sessions ($15/hour). All absences are reviewed by the Attendance Review Committee, and you will receive a notification letter if your child has excessive absences.
  • Truancy: Refers to full-day absences. Parent notes for illness count toward the 10 full-day limit but do not excuse seat time.

  • Medical Notes: Must be submitted within 5 school days or absences will be unexcused.

Our first Recapture session will be Thursday, November 13th from 4:00pm - 6:00pm, then Saturday, December 13th and then all Semester Classes seat time have to be recaptured on or before Saturday, January 24th, 2026.

Updates: Updates:

📣We have started the course request process for the 2025-2026 school year.
    • This resource will help walk you through the course request process and resources.

    • Keep in mind that during the course request process, students are requesting 8 first-choice requests and 3 alternate courses. The structure of how these courses enter the schedule is determined at a later time.

🪧 2026 - 2027 schedule - We are exploring ways to implement some 4x4 scheduling for the 2026-2027 school year. The goal is to provide extra support and opportunities for students. We aim to identify those courses and offer 4x4 options that will benefit students.
