Keeping the Nest in Check
Starting Strong in Quarter Two! CHS Special Edition
A Message from the Nest
As we wrap up the first quarter, we want to take a moment to celebrate the hard work and progress our students have made so far!
This is also a great time to pause, reflect, and refocus on the expectations that help every student soar - academics, behavior and attendance. Our shared goal is to ensure each student leaves high school prepared for college, a career, or wherever their dreams may lead. Success truly takes a partnership between school and home, and we’re so thankful for your continued support, encouragement, and teamwork in helping our students reach their full potential.
We aRe Ready to learn …….We aRe Respectful to others…….. We aRe Responsible to ourselves ………...We aRe a thousand passions with one heartbeat, We aRe Chapin!
Academic - Ready to learn!
🔔 Structured NEST (Necessary Enrichment Study Time) Students who currently have a grade below 69 in any class are assigned to a specific NEST session for academic support. These assignments will be communicated to students during their bi-weekly MAST (homeroom) class. Students have two weeks to attend their assigned NEST sessions.
📚 Afterschool Eagle Enrichment is our afterschool tutoring program for CHS students. It will be held in the media center from 4 - 5:30 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. No need to sign up! Students needing help should show up ready to work!

🪑Attendance policies. Please watch the this video for full details on District Five’s updated procedures for Seat Time and Truancy, especially if you are the parent of a new student to Chapin High School.
Key Points:
- Seat Time: Max 10 absences in a year-long course or 5 in a semester course. All absences (medical, parent note, suspension, etc.) count toward this limit. Absences 11-20 in a year-long class or 6-10 in a semester class will require seat time recapture to be completed. Exceeding the limit results in a grade of FA (Failure due to Absence) and a 0.0 GPA value unless seat time is made up during recapture sessions ($15/hour). All absences are reviewed by the Attendance Review Committee, and you will receive a notification letter if your child has excessive absences.
Truancy: Refers to full-day absences. Parent notes for illness count toward the 10 full-day limit but do not excuse seat time.
Medical Notes: Must be submitted within 5 school days or absences will be unexcused.
Our first Recapture session will be Thursday, November 13th from 4:00pm - 6:00pm, then Saturday, December 13th and then all Semester Classes seat time have to be recaptured on or before Saturday, January 24th, 2026.
Parents - Stay Connected, Stay Informed!
🚗🚗 Car Riders: For everyone’s safety, please use only the designated car rider lane when picking up students before or after school.
💻The PowerSchool Parent Portal is a secure, user-friendly tool that connects parents, students, and teachers. It provides real-time access to grades, homework, attendance, and assignments to help support student success. Please refer to this Brochure on how to set up Powerschool.
