From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Bakie Family and Friends,
We have some exciting things happening at DJ Bakie School! As we move through the school year, we look forward to connecting with our families, celebrating our students’ learning, and building strong partnerships between home and school. Please take a moment to read about a few important events coming up!
Save the Date: Parent Conferences — November 3rd
Our fall parent conferences are coming soon! Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 3rd, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. There will be no school for students on November 3rd so that we can dedicate the day to meeting with families and discussing each child’s progress, growth, and learning.
More information about scheduling conferences will be coming home soon. We look forward to partnering with you to celebrate your child’s successes and work together to support their continued growth!
Come Explore the Dragon Showcase!
While you are here for conferences, be sure to stop by our Dragon Showcase! The gym/cafeteria will be transformed into a special display featuring samples of our students’ work and highlighting the wonderful learning taking place throughout our school.
Families are invited to explore the showcase anytime during conference hours, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We are also excited to welcome community members to visit and see all the amazing things our students are creating and learning.
Bring your family, invite your friends, and spread the word! We can’t wait to share a little Dragon pride with our community and celebrate the hard work of our young learners.
Thank you for your continued support, enthusiasm, and partnership!
Warmly,
Andrea Lancey
Principal

Kindergarten Happenings
Our kindergarten scientists have been busy exploring how we use our five senses to learn about the world around us! Through hands-on experiences, thoughtful discussions, and creative projects, the children discovered just how amazing our bodies are.
We began with a taste test to explore our sense of taste. Students bravely tried arugula, lemons, pretzels, and chocolate chips—and had lots to say about which were sweet, salty, bitter, or sour! There were some funny faces and big smiles as we compared flavors and shared our favorites.
Next, we focused on our sense of sight. We looked closely at our classroom and outside the windows, noticing colors, shapes, and patterns. We also learned about the parts of the eye—the iris and the pupil—and how they help us see.
Over the next few weeks we will be learning about the sense of touch, students will create hand models and explore textures like sticky, bumpy, soft, and smooth. They will love comparing how different materials feel and describing them with new words.
Our sense of smell will come to life as we sniff different scents of Jell-O! Students will use their detective skills to match the smells to real fruits using smelly stickers. We will talk about how we use our sense of smell every day—to enjoy food, stay safe, and notice changes around us.
To wrap up our unit, the children will show what they have learned by creating their own Mr. Potato Head models, adding the body parts we use for each sense—eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and hands.
It will be a wonderful unit of discovery and excitement as our young learners use their senses to explore, describe, and connect with the world around them!
