Weekly Wrap-Up #6: 09/25/2026
Wrapping up This Week + News for the Weeks to Come
From the Principal's Mind...
This coming Thursday is our jogathon. For people who are new to Garfield, this is a fun, all community event. We have very specific times that grade bands walk or run and then the rest of the day runs as a typical school day schedule. However, during your scheduled Jogathon time, grade level groups will report to the blacktop at the south end (near Kindergarten doors). Information will be shared with kids and then the running or walking begins around the perimeter of the school, using the sidewalk.
If you'd like to stay when you drop off students, you are free to create posters for cheering on your child or for all kids! PTA is providing materials to do this for your child(ren) or you are always free to bring a poster made at home as well. You are also free to step in to a volunteer role with PTA from handing out water to help people get supplies to choosing a space somewhere around our property for cheering for all of our students. You'll see cheerleaders from our community and more. If you can't stay but just want to cheer them on during their schedule run times, you are also welcome to join for just that.
Jogathon is our PTAs ONLY Fundraiser for the year and it funds so much for classrooms and students. What I love about it is that 100% of the money raised stays here at Garfield!
At our Friday Wrap Up (the very next day, October 2nd), we will award the Jogathon Raffle Prizes. I expect we're going to have some VERY excited kids!
If you need anything, call 970-613-6000 and one of our front office staff will help you get what you need or get you to the person you need. If you need me call, send me a private message via Class Dojo, or email to kathy.sather@tsd.org. Partnering together to benefit kids is important to us here!

Are you interested in volunteering? Cas Wingard is our Volunteer Coordinator. Here's some information to help you decide... Volunteers Can Do a Variety of Tasks Such As
Listen to students read
- Tutor students
- Make bulletin board displays
- Copy & prepare materials
- Quiz students on spelling words
- File paperwork
- Set up labs
- Give presentations
- Grade papers – but not post grades in gradebook or database
In order to volunteer for Thompson School District, volunteers must do the following:
o One-Time Volunteers: Get a sex offender background check with the Secretary by presenting their ID to her/him.
o All Other Volunteers: Register online and get a full background check at tsd.org/volunteer - This includes those who work from home, after school, or for a field trip. (Instructions for registering are attached in 3 languages.)
Volunteers do NOT have to re-register every year. Once they are registered, the registration is good for life. Virginia, school secretary, Cas Wingard, school volunteer coordinator, and Lisa Wegener in the VITAL Office can check if you are already registered to volunteer.
Our volunters make a difference at Garfield! In advance, thank you!
NUTRITION SERVICES INFO
Linq Connect
Meal Benefits: Do I need to fill it out? Yes!
All families are still highly encouraged to fill out an application. Why? The Healthy School Meals for All (HSMA) program is funded in partnership with federal nutrition programs that rely on income information to support meals for all students. Other state and federal grants are awarded based on free and reduced meal eligibility rates.
Additionally, families that qualify may receive discounted or waived fees for programs inside and outside of the school district. Applications are available to all households at school sites and online at linqconnect.com. Applications need to be completed annually (after mid-July) for the new school year. The information provided on the application is confidential and is not shared without your consent.
Linq Connect is your “one stop shop” for information and resources including menus, student meal accounts and household income / meal eligibility applications. It’s easy to register – just go to linqconnect.com to get started. You may also access information through
the main TSD website by clicking on Departments and Nutrition Services.
