Mrs. Young's 6th Grade Science Class

In 6th-grade science, we started our natural resources unit. As a way to introduce the concepts of resource extraction, cost, and environmental impact, students completed a cookie mining activity. Full and partial chocolate chips were worth money, and they had to calculate their total profit after land cleanup and tools were bought. It was a yummy activity!

Brad Snow, ELA 5th grade Teacher

Years in the district: This is my first year.
If you were to receive a fun school year superlative, what would it be? Most likely to be the least serious at all times

What is a phrase, rule, or motto you often share with students? "Everything is a choice." I really like to emphasize the students' abilities to make changes and shape their future by reframing their mindsets.

What’s your go-to drink and/or snack order to get through the day? Give me a cold brew coffee, and you will see how content a person can be.

What’s a tradition, lesson, or activity in your classroom/space that students enjoy most? We are always going to take time to move in my classroom. Whether that's moving around with worksheets to find questions, taking a 1 minute break to balance books on our heads, or a stretch break.

What is a phrase, rule, or motto you often share with students? "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something, but I can't accept not trying." - Michael Jordan

What does being a "Middie" mean to you? Being a "Middie" to me means that I am part of a community where I am not just teaching in my own classroom, but contributing to a larger goal that supports students, families and educators across the entire community.
