Principal's Message
My top 3 highlights from last week:
Watching Dr. Arnold’s science lab, where students were busy engineering a zip line return system—their creativity and problem-solving were impressive.
Interacting with our 2nd graders during their language arts lesson. It’s inspiring to see our young learners becoming confident readers and thinkers. We’re fortunate to have a K–8 language arts curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading, ensuring a strong foundation for all students.
Cheering on our 8th grade boys basketball team during their playoff game. They not only showcased great skill and teamwork but also demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship.
Thanks for your partnership

LPJUSD Educator Profile-Monique Schwartz
This is Monique Schwartz's 3rd year at LPJUSD in her role as the health clerk for Loma and CT. Enjoy the following Q&A below as we get to meet Ms. Monique.
What do you love about being a staff member at LPJUSD?
The Community. Everyone is always willing to help each other.
What's one thing students don't know about you that they would be surprised to find out?
I have a dog named Hilo.
What are your words of wisdom?
Treat others the way that you would like to be treated.
Important Safety Reminder: Loma Pick-Up Area
The safety of our students is our highest priority. We have observed some children playing in the school pick-up area, which creates a critical safety concern as the pick-up area has moving vehicles, and children playing can unexpectedly dart between cars, putting themselves at serious risk.
To ensure everyone’s safety, please follow these guidelines:
Do NOT allow children to play in the pick-up zone.
Do NOT linger in the area between Kids and Co. and the parking lot.
Do NOT allow children to climb on tables or electrical boxes in this area.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for our entire school community.

SCHOOL PICTURE MAKE UP DAY- OCTOBER 27
Halloween: Friday, October 31
We are so excited here on campus to celebrate Halloween. Here is some guidance on common student/parent questions:
First- yes students may wear the inflatable costumes.
The second is regarding Middle School students arriving to campus in costume. Middle Schoolers will have a normal instructional day until 11:30am. Therefore, Middle School students DO NOT come to school in their costume. They will be provided time to change before Halloween activities begin.
For all K-8 students: please use the costume guidelines below if your child plans to wear or bring a costume to school.
1. Costumes cannot include any weapon. Please leave these at home.
2. Please limit blood/gore as we have small children.
3. No inappropriate slogans, language, or products.
Independent Study Process
If at some point during the year, there may be a non-health event that results in your student's absence from school.
When this occurs, families are encouraged to schedule an Independent Study for their student. Please note that a Short-Term Independent Study Agreement must be for a minimum of three (3) and not to exceed fourteen (14) school days for the year.
Here are the steps and deadlines to fulfill a successful Short-Term Independent Study agreement:
1) At least two weeks before your student's absence, complete this form located on the school websites or stop by the school offices to pick up the form.
2) The student work packet will be handed to your student on the last day of school before the IS starts.
3) Return the packet to the teacher on the day the student returns to school. The teacher will review the assignments and turn the entire packet into the office.
Please note that the responsibility for completing an independent study falls on the parents/guardians to request, and then on the student to complete. Our front offices are here to help guide you as necessary. Please ensure your student meets all the above expectations to have their absences shift from "unexcused" to "excused via Independent Study".
Requests for Independent Study for the first 2 weeks of school or the last 2 weeks of school will not be approved.
Loma Lunch Recess Yard Duty Needed
We are looking for volunteers to help with Loma lunch/recess supervision! We are in need of one person Monday-Friday from 11:25-12:00. Even if you can only volunteer for one day per week or find someone to share with you so you alternate weeks, it would be greatly appreciated.
For more information please contact Principal Ramsay (a.ramsay@lpjusd.us) or stop by the Loma office and talk with Zoila.
Safety Drills
At Loma Prieta Elementary and CT English Middle School, safety drills are a routine part of our district's safety plan, conducted for the crucial purpose of ensuring preparedness. They ensure that students and staff know how to respond calmly and effectively in the event of an actual emergency, thereby reducing panic and confusion.
We have a rotating schedule of different drills throughout the year to prepare for various scenarios. This rotation includes:
- Fire Drills: Practiced to teach students the fastest and safest evacuation routes in the event of a fire. Last week, we had our first drill. Students were quiet and quick in exiting the buildings. They did a great job!
- Earthquake Drills: These drills focus on the "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" technique to protect students from falling objects. Our October drill will be on Oct. 17 for the Great ShakeOut.
Medication on Campus
If your student needs medication to be kept on campus, please make sure to have the attached form filled out by a doctor. Please bring in medication with a filled-out form to the health office for it to be properly stored on campus. Medication CANNOT be kept on campus if the attached form is not filled out and signed.

Interested in Before or After School Child Care
Loma Prieta has before and after school care for students at Kids & Co.
Please contact Bridget at b.freiri@lpjusd.us
24 hour reminder:
If your child falls ill, please ensure they are fever-free and/or vomit-free for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
Please visit our Parent Resources page for general health and COVID guidance. Please call our attendance line at 408-337-2206 to report students who are sick and are unable to come to school.
NO Dogs on Campus
Dogs are not allowed on our school campuses. This is particularly true during drop-off, pick-up and during school hours. While we love dogs, we have several students who are allergic and/or afraid of dogs. For the health and safety of all our kids and your dogs, please leave them off campus or at home.
Anonymous Tip Reporting System
It takes a village to keep our students safe on campus and in our community. The LPJUSD concern reporting form located on the district webpage is designed to serve as a resource for students and parents who experience or observe school-related bullying, racism, harassment, or other inappropriate behaviors.
Once a report is filed our administration will be notified.
This form allows for the anonymity of the person reporting to be maintained.
Students and parents are also encouraged to contact school staff directly to report inappropriate behaviors because this typically provides us with more detailed and helpful information.
