New Enrollments
We are excited that you have chosen to school with us.
Upon enrolment, you indicated you may have an IEP.
🤷♀️What now?
When students enroll with possible 504 records, our school must request those records from the previous school or have them provided by the Parent.
🌟Next Steps Once Records are Obtained:
Your records will be reviewed by one of our 504 Specialist to ensure students as placed appropriately.
504 plans aren’t part of special education. So, they’re different from IEPs. 504 plans and IEPs are covered by different laws and work in different ways. But the end goal is the same: to help students thrive in school. (Learn more about the difference between IEPs and 504 plans.)
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
Section 504 is... A federal civil rights law. It protects students from disability discrimination by public schools, and by any college, trade school, or private school that gets federal funding.
Section 504 covers... Students of all ages who have a physical or mental disability that substantially limits a major life activity. That can include reading, learning, and concentrating.
People with disabilities have the right to… Reasonable accommodations giving them equal access to learning and school activities. Schools don’t need to change their programs — just make sure they’re accessible. Public K–12 schools may provide a written 504 plan when a disability gets in the way of a student’s ability to learn the general education curriculum. Not all students need an accommodation plan but can be found eligible for 504 status and protections.
Returning Student
If you believe that your child has a mental or physical disability that may qualify them for 504, please alert your Homeroom teacher. They will ensure that you are referred to the 504 specialist who will call to discuss your medical concerns.
