Hello Luna Longhorn Parents,

We have made it through three full weeks of school🎉. As we continue to navigate this school year, we remain committed to providing a safe and positive environment for our students.

We enjoying seeing you on campus and eating with your student. If you are planning to do so, once you check in with the front office staff, you can go have a seat at the tables outside the cafeteria. We will call for your student to join you for lunch. For safety and security reasons, we ask that you do not enter the cafeteria, or purchase food for other students. We appreciate your support and understanding. Thank you for being amazing.

All bus riders, please note that scan to ride will begin on September 8th. If your student still needs a campus ID, please have them visit the front office for assistance.

Reach out to us at anytime. Have a great week!

Staggered Dismissal

One area were we are noticing a need for change is at dismissal. In an effort to ensure that all students exit the building and campus safely we are making a few changes to our school dismissal procedures. Starting on Monday, August 31st we will follow updated dismissal procedures and expectations:

To reduce congestion in hallways and ensure an orderly dismissal process, we will follow a staggered dismissal process leading up to the final school bell.

  • Parent Pick-Up Location: Students being picked up should meet their rides at the designated parent pick-up area in front of the school by the flag poles. For safety reasons, students are not permitted to leave campus and return later. It is essential that students remain in the designated areas so both the school and parents know where they are at all times.
  • Bus Riders: Students who ride the bus should proceed directly to the bus area behind the cafeteria when dismissed. Please note that buses depart promptly at 4:02 PM, so it is important for bus riders to head straight to their buses.
  • Walkers: Students who walk home must leave campus immediately after dismissal and head directly home. We ask that walkers do not hang around outside of the campus after school hours.

To ensure a smooth and safe dismissal process, campus administration and the campus officer are strategically stationed around the front of the campus, including at the parent pick-up area, bus area, front entrance, front crosswalk, and bus exit. For the safety of the campus, administration and the campus officer stay on the campus. They have a direct line to NISD PD dispatch if a situation arises off campus. We appreciate your partnership in supporting these procedures and working together to prioritize the safety of our students.

A Message From Office Reyes

Just a quick reminder: Please do not use the parking lot to drop off students in the morning. For the safety of our staff and students, please use the drop off line option in the front of the school.

What's Happening is Social Studies

6th Grade World Cultures: Students are wrapping up Unit 1 "Geography" and beginning Unit 2 "Political". Students have already taken their Unit 1 test, Parents/Guardians are able to view exam results via CMS located in their student's portal. The Unit 2 test is scheduled for Thursday September 10th.

7th Grade Texas History: Students have just completed their Texas Regions test and are now moving into our next unit on the Native American groups of Texas. Students will be learning about groups such as the Karankawa, Coahuiltecan, Caddo, Wichita, Comanche, and Apache, with a focus on how geography, climate, and natural resources influenced the way they lived. Students will explore how each group adapted to its environment and developed unique cultures and ways of life. Our next Native Americans test is scheduled for Friday, September 4th, so students should be reviewing their notes and class materials as we prepare for the assessment.

8th Grade U.S History: Students are currently in the midst of Unit 1 "Exploration & Colonization". So far we have covered why Europeans colonized the "New World", where the English colonized, and how these early settlements developed into the 13 American Colonies. Over the next few weeks we are going to look at the development of new government and new culture in the colonies which makes many colonials start to ask the question, "Why do we need England?" Our Unit 1 Test is scheduled for Thursday September 10th. After which we will move into Unit 2, "The American Revolution".

Standard Response Protocol provides common language with local law enforcement agencies in the event of a potential threat.

As we begin this 26-27 school year, please have conversations with your students about the importance of on campus reporting. If your student "See's Something", please encourage them to "Say Something".
