Realizing the Magic That Is Small-Group Instruction

COCISD PD Training Expectations Advanced Academics/GT COCISD PD Training Expectations Advanced Academics/GT

COCISD provides Advanced Academics to our students at the Elementary and Intermediate through a pull-out program and through small group enrichment in the regular classroom setting. Our secondary campuses serve the students placed in the Gifted and Talented Program through our Honors, Dual Credit and AP classes.

All certified teachers at our Elementary and Intermediate campuses are expected to be working on the attainment of their 30 HR initial GT training. Furthermore, our Advanced Placement teachers at COCISD Secondary campuses are expected to acquire a minimum of 6 hours of Advanced Placement training annually. All Administrators and counselors as well as GT teachers are required to complete a 6 HR GT update annually.

GT Annual Update for Administration and Counselors

Mrs. Melissa Saphos with esc6 will be on site to deliver the 6HR update for Administration and Counselors on Monday, December 12, 2022. If you have not received your mandated annual update for this year, please plan to attend. I will send out registration information when it becomes available.

Check with your campus administration/secretary for procedures on how permission is granted to attend, registering for the event and requesting your PO if necessary.

Upcoming Dates for Obtaining Your GT 30HR Initial Training Requirement

Below are session IDs, dates and information for esc6 provided GT trainings throughout this school year (check on substitute availability and get administrator permission prior to registering). These are the 5 days required of any teacher who teaches students identified as Gifted and Talented. NOTE: These must only be taken once to receive your mandatory training. The requirement after that is for an annual 6 HR update.
