Edition 24: August 2, 2023 Edition 24: August 2, 2023

August is here and it is a special month as we officially start the 2023-24 athletic year. Temple Women’s soccer and football have reported for preseason practice and will be followed shortly by our other fall sports teams. It is always a great time seeing our young men and women eagerly preparing for the start of a new season.

NEW YEAR, NEW OWL LOGO NEW YEAR, NEW OWL LOGO

Yesterday, we debuted a new secondary Owl mark. Just like Temple’s iconic T, which was created by graphic design students from Tyler School of Art and Architecture in the mid-1980s, this mark is truly Temple Made. Sports branding strategist Joe Bosack, TYL ’94, worked with Associate Professor Bryan Satalino’s senior capstone course in graphic and interactive design to create and refine this mark. You will see this new mark starting this fall on Temple apparel as well team gear. CLICK HERE to purchase gear with the new mark.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING

Over the summer, under the stewardship of Dr. Stephany Coakley, our entire Temple Athletics staff participated in an intensive one-day Mental Health First Aid training program. We are firmly committed to the overall health of our student-athletes, coaches and staff. This training should provide our coaches and staff the tools to recognize when someone is experiencing a mental health challenge and provide some tools to assist. I want to thank Dr. Coakley for working hard to make this valuable training a reality.
