Tigersgiving

All MUHS students and staff are invited to attend our 2nd annual Tigersgiving on Wednesday, November 19th from 3:30-5:00 pm. Tigersgiving consists of a food drive, free fashion event, a capture the turkey (flag) game under the lights, light snacks and community. Those who are able are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and toiletries to school the week of November 17-21. Donations of gently used clothing, footwear, and accessories for the free fashion event are being collected now November 14th. Please contact the front office for more information.

Device-Free Initiative: Second Quarter Reflection

As we begin the second quarter of our device-free initiative, we are launching a reflection process to evaluate its effectiveness.

We’ve observed that students are not consistently using the Yondr pouches distributed at the start of the year. However, throughout the school day, we are pleased to see that classrooms, hallways, and social spaces remain largely phone-free—a significant success worth celebrating.

At this stage, we are considering whether to recommit to enforcing Yondr pouch use or to update our policy to recognize the success students have shown in managing their phone use appropriately during school hours.

Our current plan restricts personal device use from arrival until 3:15 PM in order to:

  • Reduce classroom distractions and promote academic focus

  • Encourage in-person social connections and build community

  • Decrease negative behaviors such as bullying and class-skipping

We are seeking feedback from students, staff, and caregivers as our leadership team evaluates whether our current approach is meeting these goals or if adjustments are needed.

Review Timeframe and How to Share Your Feedback

We have a structured plan to gather input:

Phase 1: Students, November 10-14

Phase 2: Caregivers, November 17-21

Phase 3: Staff, December 1-12

Phases 4 & 5: Communication and Implementation, December 16-January 9

We will specifically invite caregivers to participate during the week of November 17–21 through in-person, virtual reflection opportunities, and a dedicated survey. Please see next week's newsletter for more chances to engage in the discussion.

We will use all stakeholder input to finalize any necessary changes in December, with the goal of communicating outcomes and implementing any adjustments upon return from the Winter Holiday break in early January. Your input is vital in making sure this plan best serves our students!

Attention, Seniors!

Seniors received an email this week with a link to order their Cap&Gowns and Diplomas! If you're the parent of a senior, check in with them to make sure they got it. (Here it is again, in case that's helpful!) If you have any questions please reach out to Emaly Bessette in the front office!.

From the School Nurses From the School Nurses

Throughout the school year, there is often a variety of illnesses including respiratory and gastrointestinal viruses going around. We wanted to share a reminder of our expectations on when students and staff should stay home from school. Frequent handwashing, rest, staying hydrated and eating healthy foods are all key to remaining healthy and preventing illness during this time. We appreciate all efforts to reduce the spread of illness in our school.

We expect students and staff to stay home with any potentially contagious illnesses or symptoms including the following:

  1. Vomiting/diarrhea-must be 24 hours symptom free before returning to school

  2. Fever 100.4 or greater-home until fever free without use of medication for 24 hours

  3. Any infection requiring antibiotic-keep your student home until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours

  4. Persistent cough that disrupts normal activity (unless related to a chronic condition such as asthma)

  5. Unexplained rash

  6. Influenza-stay home until fever free without medication for 24 hours

  7. Any other symptoms or illness that impedes a student’s ability to learn or staff’s ability to work.

You may return once feeling well enough to be at school and fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

Please reach out anytime with questions or concerns.
