Honoring and Remembering September 11th Honoring and Remembering September 11th

For many of us, it is hard to believe that it has been 25 years since the 9/11 attacks in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC. The attacks forever changed our country. For many adults, this day brings back difficult memories and reminds us of the importance of kindness, compassion, and coming together as a community.

With our youngest students, we are mindful of their age and developmental needs. We encourage families to use their own judgment about how much, if anything, to share with their children. If questions arise, simple, reassuring conversations focused on safety, caring for others, and the helpers in our communities can be helpful.

Here is the message shared with students this morning during the morning announcements.

“Today is September 11. Many years ago, something very sad happened on this day. Grown-ups may remember it, and sometimes they feel sad when they think about it.

But what we want you to remember most is that whenever something scary happens in the world, there are always helpers. On that day, firefighters, police officers, doctors, nurses, and neighbors all worked hard to keep people safe and to help those who needed it.

We can honor this day by thinking about how we can be helpers too. Being a helper doesn’t mean you have to do something big. Helpers can be kind to friends, share toys, invite someone to play, listen, or say kind words when someone is sad.

So today, we remember the helpers from September 11, and we practice being helpers in our school and our community.”

This document outlines the responsibilities of each party.

Please review the attached compact. If you have further questions please feel free to contact any member of the Title I Team.

Title I

Family / School Compact

Green Meadow School

2026-2027

The Green Meadow School and the families (parents / guardians) of students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how the the Title I Team (instructional coaches and paraprofessionals) and families will collaborate to support student academic achievement. The compact also details the means by which the school, the Title I Team, and families will build and develop a partnership that focuses on helping students achieve the State’s high standards. This Family / School Compact is in effect during the 2025-2026 school year.

Green Meadow School Responsibilities

The Title I Team will support students by:

  • Providing high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment for participating students in order to help them meet the State’s achievement standards.

  • Implementing small-group, focused instruction using research-based programs.

  • Providing families with reports on their child’s progress. Progress reports will be provided to families in January and in June.

  • Providing an open line of communication. Instructional coaches will be available for consultation with caregivers during scheduled conferences, through email, and / or phone conversations.

  • Providing instruction in a way that will motivate and encourage students in a safe and positive atmosphere.

  • Communicating regularly with your child’s classroom teacher regarding your child’s progress.

Caregiver Responsibilities

I understand that a caregiver’s participation is important to my child’s education and learning.

I will support my child by:

  • Making sure my child arrives to school on time ready to learn.

  • Reading to and with my child regularly.

  • Communicating with my child’s teacher about his/her progress, including conferences and other parent / guardian programs.

Maynard Public Schools no longer requires a signature on this compact. If you have questions or concerns about the Family/School Compact, please contact Deanna LeBlanc, Director of Curriculum, at dleblanc@maynard.k12.ma.us.

Early Release Days Early Release Days

We have our first two early release days of the school year on Friday, September 11, and Friday, September 25. These scheduled days allow staff to participate in necessary professional development.

Please enter your child's Early Release Day schedule in Pick Up Patrol. There is a new selection for BASEC Early Release days if your child will only be attending the program on these days. If your child is going to the Boys & Girls Club just for early release days, please let us know how they will be getting there in the notes. Students may only ride Bus 1 and Bus 3 to the Club if they have a bus pass for these buses.

Early Release Day Bagged Lunches - In the past, bagged lunches have been offered to students on Early Release Days. This year, in accordance with updated DESE regulations, bagged lunches will be provided to students during the school day and enjoyed during the designated snack time in their classrooms.

Teachers will ask students earlier in the week if they would like to order a bagged lunch. Please share your family plan with your child to assist in this process. Students who do not order a bagged lunch should plan to bring a snack from home. We will encourage all students to take home any non-perishable food items that they do not eat so that nothing goes to waste.

Thank you for your partnership and understanding as we make this adjustment.
