CONGRATULATIONS WATERVLIET HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2025! CONGRATULATIONS WATERVLIET HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2025!

Watervliet High School has been recognized as a College Bound Michigan Champion Site for Michigan College month which took place in October. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of both the seniors and faculty at the high school. 80% of our seniors applied to one or more colleges during the month of October. College Bound Michigan is a statewide initiative that supports students through key post secondary planning milestones: 1. Michigan College Application Month, 2. The College Cash Campaign (FAFSA completion), and 3. Decision Day (college commitment day May 5th). WHS is supporting students in their post secondary journey and making college access a priority!

PANTHER HOTLINE PANTHER HOTLINE

If your child has a concern regarding anyone's safety in the building (student or staff), the Panther Hotline is an anonymous way to report the information to the building principal immediately. It is always preferred that the student come to the office to talk face to face about the concern, however if that is not possible, the Panther Hotline is the best way to get the information to building administration immediately. All students have been emailed this link. It is also posted around the school building.

https://forms.gle/iy8Nep5DZDjZYwsF7

Once completed, the information comes directly to the principal in the form of an email.

APRIL 22 FIELD TRIP (OPTIONAL for Juniors and Seniors only) APRIL 22 FIELD TRIP (OPTIONAL for Juniors and Seniors only)

The National Guard will be hosting a Meet the Guard Event on Tuesday April 22nd @ Fort Custer over in Battle Creek. This is a great experience for students to experience what the National Guard is like, what jobs we offer, get to explore different vehicles that we have. The day is designed for the students to visit a Military base and become more educated on what the Military is like.

We have a thing we call a petting zoo where they get to wear certain equipment we wear and get to be inside the Military vehicles we have.

What it boils down to is this is basically a giant career fair but military style.

I grew up in Hartford, MI until I was 15. Then I moved to Watervliet to live with my Aunt Marge & Uncle Butch. Even though I lived in Watervliet, I did graduate from Hartford High School.

My husband Larry and I have two children, Olivia Ann and Kevin-Tylor Adams. We have five grandchildren: Hailey James, Amara Ren, McKinley Ann, Felicity Rose, and Avery Irving.

I started working on and off for WPS in the late nineties. For over a decade, I coached middle school and High school volleyball. I was also a para sub and a physical assistant to a high school student. When I was forty, I took a short break and went to LMC College, but I continued volunteering at WPS.

My husband graduated from WPS and fondly remembers the support of the teaching staff and the community. He was adamant that our children attend WPS.

That said, since I knew several community members who worked for the school, I was convinced that this was our children's place. I have not regretted that decision. Our children participated in multiple school activities, were at the top of their class, and gained college-earned credits. Our children went on to get their degrees at Western Michigan University and have joyful and prosperous lives. It shows that even a small school can offer students the most excellent opportunities. It's not about the size of the school; it's about the passion that goes into the student and creates successful opportunities. Now, my husband and I have the good fortune to see all five of our grandchildren enrolled in WPS. We are a family of Proud Panthers through and through.

When I was seventeen, I was in a contest, and I was asked if I had a million dollars and what I would do with it. This was an easy question since I grew up pretty poor, and food was scarce. I said I would use it to feed hungry children, and here I am today, feeding our children at school for free. It's as if God had a plan, and I hit the lottery for our students. I am so blessed to be able to nurture our students in the best way possible—nurture them from the inside out and watch them flourish and grow. Oh, and yes, I won that contest. Miss Hartford 1982 (no comment on the old lady's age):

Thank you, Jesus, for showing me where you needed me to be.

How to Compare Financial Aid Offers Video for Students and Families

As colleges and universities begin processing and sending award offers to students, we thought it would be helpful to share a short video created by MiLEAP's Office of Higher Education. We know award offers can be confusing, so the How to Compare Financial Aid Offers video is focused on helping students and families understand and compare award offers in order to find the best financial fit.

Mr. Coburn can also meet with seniors and families to compare and discuss financial aid offers.
