Test Folders Test Folders

On Thursday, 10/17, students were given the second test folder of the year. Inside the folder, you will find a sheet listing the contents of the folder, as well as a line for your signature.

Please sign the enclosed paper saying that you’ve seen the contents and return the entire folder by Monday, October 21st.

If the test folder is not returned by Monday, October 21st, a demerit will be issued. If returning the folder by Monday, 10/21 will be an issue, please communicate that to your student's homeroom teacher. We appreciate your partnership!

Headphones Headphones

All students must have a pair of headphones that can be stored in their pencil case or cubby. Several students do not have their own set of headphones. Please check in with your student! Here’s a link to a pair that would be easy to buy. Bluetooth, wireless headphones are not the best to have for everyday use in the classroom.

Case for Smiles - 7th Grade Fundraiser Case for Smiles - 7th Grade Fundraiser

The seventh grade is working on our annual service project. In two weeks, we will work with Case for Smiles and sew soft, colorful pillowcases for the kids and assemble gift boxes for their siblings. This project aligns with a summer reading novel, and it also helps us prepare for Confirmation by being involved first-hand in service.

We have BIG things going on to help fund this service project:

  • Raffle Baskets - It is that time of year for our AMAZING raffle baskets. Information and order forms go home this Monday, October 21. Learn more by watching this week’s Wildcat. Ticket orders are due Friday, October 25. We draw the winners Monday, October 28.

  • Wednesday, October 23 - Dress Down Day, $1 donation please

  • Popsicle Sale - Wednesday, 10/23 and Thursday, 10/24 we will sell popsicles at morning recess, $1 each.

We would be so grateful for your support in all of these endeavors. Thank you so much!

This week, we will continue reading and analyzing characters and conflict in Freak the Mighty. On Tuesday, we will start Lesson 2 of Wordly Wise vocabulary. In Writing, students will continue to focus on comma rules, using RACE, and rewriting a portion of Freak the Mighty from a different point of view.

Last week, students started the Unit One Choice Board project. To brainstorm for the project, I created a custom chatbot on Magic School, which is a generative AI platform for education. Students clicked the custom link, and they brainstormed with the chatbot. I created the knowledge base that the chatbot used to respond to the students’ questions. There are some pictures in the weekly photo album, but they will not convey the excitement that I felt in the classroom. All students absolutely LOVED the activity!! Ask them to show you!!

Next week, we will study a few saints whose feast days are celebrated in October. Then, we will move into Unit One Chapter 3 of Christ Our Life, which centers around the Creation story. We will reflect upon last week’s field trip to Newlin Grist Mill during our class discussions about our responsibility to God’s creation.

Upcoming Assessments

  • Unit One Choice Board Project: due Wednesday, November 6th

    • Checkpoint #1: Wednesday, October 23rd

    • Checkpoint #2: Wednesday, October 30th

Math Math

Honors Math - We explored several different methods for finding the GCF and LCM and practiced these skills using Math Playground. We also compared and ordered fractions, again using different methods. Next week, we will convert fractions to decimals and look at repeating and terminating decimals.

At Level Math - We practiced more indirect measurement problems. It was challenging for some students to take a word problem and create the diagram that would lead to the proportion. The class has no trouble solving proportions now. Next we are going to use scale drawings (and similar polygons) to enlarge copies of candy wrappers. They will have a test on Friday, 10/25 on similar polygons, missing measures, indirect measurement and scale models.

This week, the 6th grade worked on a creative assignment that will be turned in on Monday for a major grade. After reading the chapter and answering questions about the new concepts, they had to illustrate the new ideas they learned. Their one-pager is split up into 6 sections. Each section shows a different concept from the chapter. These ideas include what causes day and night, what causes the seasons, the Earth’s tilted axis, and the Earth’s revolution around the sun. They worked diligently in class and even those that don’t love to draw did a nice job with their diagrams.
