A Message from Principal Daliposki A Message from Principal Daliposki

Dear Families,

As we step into February, I hope this message finds you warm and well despite the stretch of unusually cold weather we have been experiencing. Our students have shown remarkable resilience coming to school bundled up and ready to learn, and I am grateful for your continued support in keeping them safe and prepared for the elements.

February also marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time when we honor the achievements, leadership, and cultural contributions of Black Americans throughout history. Across our school, students will engage in learning experiences that highlight voices, stories, and innovations that have shaped and continue to shape our nation.

A quick reminder that schools will be closed the week of February 16 for our mid‑winter break. I hope this upcoming time away offers your family a chance to rest, recharge, and enjoy some well‑deserved downtime.

In the meantime, please continue to send students with appropriate winter gear, as temperatures remain well below what we typically see this time of year. If your family needs assistance with cold‑weather clothing, do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to help.

Wishing you a cozy and healthy start to the month.

2026 NYC School Survey 2026 NYC School Survey

Completing Your School Survey at PS 199

Dear P.S.,199 Parents

February 9, 2026, is the beginning of the 2026 NYC School Survey campaign.

As in the past, your feedback is very important to us. We love it when you are completely happy with what we are doing to provide your children with a high-quality education. However, we need to know what we are missing and what we can improve on.

The NYC School Survey is your opportunity to share your feedback with us. You can find the results of previous surveys on the Maurice A. Fitzgerald School website on the Department of Education website; https://www.schools.nyc.gov/schools/Q199. We ask you to please complete a school survey for all your children attending school.

There are several ways you can access and complete a survey for each of your children.

You can complete the survey through your NYCSA account online. You can go directly to the school survey website at NYCSchoolsurvey.org and click on “Take the 2026 NYC School Survey”.

Your access code is a lowercase f followed by your child’s student identification or OSIS number or you can complete a paper copy that will be backpacked home this week.

Each student will receive a white and green envelope, containing the survey, and a tear-off that you will sign, and return to school with your child, after completing the survey. Students will be able to turn in survey and redeem for a small prize from Ms. Becco’s Treasure Chest. Prizes will consist of small items, for example, a snack, small toy, specialty markers or pencils, etc. Surveys will also be redeemable for a free concession item at school events; PTA ‘s Dance Lesson, Family Craft Night, etc.

If you need assistance with completing the survey, please contact me at sbecco@schools.nyc.gov or at 718 784-3431.

April 1st is the deadline to complete the school survey. We thank you in advance for your participation. The school is counting on you!

Regards

Ms. Stacey Becco

Dear families,

All NYC families with children born in 2021, 2022, or 2023 are invited to join us at a virtual information session covering 3-K, Pre-K, and Kindergarten admissions. After the presentation, we’ll respond to your questions.

During each online event, we’ll walk you through each of the elementary admissions processes. We’ll cover how to learn about schools and programs, and their priorities, using the online school directory at MySchools.nyc. We’ll also discuss how to create a strong and balanced application, and how to apply.

Check the events below to find out what interpretation services will be available at each event. Each event will cover the same information, so there is no need to attend more than one event. We’ll also allow time for attendees to ask questions.

      Message from Ms. Becco

      Dear Falcon Families

As we welcome this new year, we are glad that there is so much activity going on here at PS199. February, we have the new clubs starting and the beginning of Saturday School.

We began by celebrating Scholarship Month with the Save For College Program and our Kindergarten classes. January was the first time they could access their accounts to see their scholarship. For any of you who have not been able to participate or view your account, please send me an email and I will assist you in completing the process.

There is the opening of the 2026 NYC School Survey. We have from February 9th until April 1st to complete our surveys. More information will follow.

On Thursday, February 5th at 8:30 a.m. The Office of Emergency Management will come to share tools on how to be better prepared to manage emergency situations as they may arise.

We are still hosting City Harvest as they are working with our grade 5 students and our parents. Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3, 2026, the Adult Matters for Adults will continue at 1:00 p.m. The Beef Chili that was prepared at the last session was exceptionally good.

Join us for our first Family Craft Night of the school year. We would like to thank Ms. Gomez and Ms. Quinn for continuing what we hope will be a new norm at PS 199. The class will take place for families on Thursday, February 12th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Mid-Winter Recess School Closure will take place from Monday, February 16th until Friday, February 20th. Sunnyside Holiday Camp will be in session this week.

We hope you enjoy your time off from school and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday February 23, 2026. Enjoy!

      Be well.

Message from Chancellor Kamar Samuels Message from Chancellor Kamar Samuels

      Growing Our Teaching Community

      Dear Families and Colleagues,

Strong schools begin with strong educators. As Chancellor, and as someone who began my own New York City Public Schools career as an NYC Teaching Fellow, I know how transformative a great teacher can be—for students, schools, and families.

Recruiting and supporting outstanding educators is essential to ensuring that every child in every neighborhood has access to a high-quality education, and that our educators reflect the diversity and excellence of our communities. With smaller class sizes coming to schools across the five boroughs, we are looking for even more passionate, thoughtful, creative New Yorkers to become NYCPS teachers.

Whether you or someone you know is an experienced teacher or is considering teaching as a new career, NYC Public Schools offers many pathways into the classroom. These include options for certified teachers, teachers from other states, current NYCPS employees who are interested in becoming teachers, accelerated pathways to teaching, opportunities for industry professionals, and more. You can learn if opportunities might be right for you or someone you know at TeachNYC.net.

Teaching in New York City means being part of something larger than any one classroom. It is an opportunity to serve, learn, and help shape the future of our city.

If you—or someone you know—has ever considered becoming an educator, I encourage you to explore and share the pathways available at TeachNYC.net.

      In partnership,

      Kamar H. Samuels
      Chancellor

      The Chancellor’s Spotlight:

NYC Teaching Fellows is a pathway that is particularly close to me, as it is the program I joined over 20 years ago. I learned about the Teaching Fellows from an ad on the subway; it asked, “You remember your first-grade teacher’s name. Who will remember yours?” That question stuck with me. I applied to become a Teaching Fellow and entered the classroom a few months later.

Our Teaching Fellows come from a wide range of professional backgrounds (I had been working in finance), and the program provided me with intensive preparation, mentorship, and ongoing professional learning to help me apply my love of math to teaching.

The NYC Teaching Fellows application is open through March 19, so today is a great day to apply if you have a bachelor's degree and a desire to make a difference in the lives of NYC students.

Nominate a person or program for The Chancellor’s Spotlight.
