Message from the Executive Headteacher Message from the Executive Headteacher

It's wonderful to see the warmer weather has returned and the signs of Spring are all around us. Being outside is such an important part of learning and HISN staff always try to involve outdoor activities for the children as it is so beneficial. Last week, year 2 walked over to Carlisle Park to collect natural resources which will be used when the classes work on their printing project. Thank you to the volunteers who accompanied the children and I'm sure the art work they produce will be eye catching. Click here to view the gallery.

Last Friday the children in Y1 pulled on their dancing shoes for the disco which was hosted by HPPA and raised £391.87, this is a tremendous result and helps HPPA achieve its goal which is a new HPP minibus. Thanks to the staff who stayed to join in the fun and to the team of HPPA volunteers who made this event such a success.

The Year 2 children enjoyed a Florence Nightingale workshop this week, this workshop supports their learning of the curriculum and HPPA was able to support this so there was no cost to families. Without support from HPPA, enrichment experiences like this would not be possible as school budgets no longer stretch that far! Click here to view the gallery.

Finally, considerate parking around the school remains an issue and local residents are keen to work with us to reduce illegal parking. Please always walk to school if possible and if not park slightly further away and walk a little further.

Have a great weekend once it arrives.

Calendar of Events Summer Term 2026

Team Earth Team Earth

We have marked Earth Day with some thoughtful discussions about our world. The children explored why it is important to take care of the Earth and how our power has an enormous impacted. They shared some simple ideas about how we can help, such as keeping our surroundings clean and being kind to nature. It was a lovely opportunity to encourage awareness and a sense of responsibility.

Our focus book this week has been The Gingerbread Man and the children have enjoyed retelling and acting out the story, particularly the renowned line, ‘Run, run as fast as you can…….’! We have been decorating Gingerbread men and women with sparkly gems and googly eyes and exercising our fine motor skills by cutting and sticking different outfits for our gingerbread men and women.

The new café role play area has been a huge success and our enthusiastic little bakers have been practising their maths skills with the pretend money, learning how to be a paying customer as well as understanding that when coins are used, change can be given.

Reception Reception

This week's story is The Gingerbread Man, part of our Traditional Tales theme this half term. We have been busy colouring in our own gingerbread people so that we can send them on a journey in the post. When they come back to school, we hope to read lots of interesting stories about their adventures in faraway lands.

We are each planting a sunflower seed so that we can watch it grow until it is big enough to plant out in our poly tunnel.

We have been practising all of our sounds and built words “fizz”, “bang” and “chop”. New sound "tch" has appeared on the board, so that the witch can now scratch her itch!

We have been writing long letters “t”, “i” and “l” and remembering each rhyme to form the correct shapes.

In maths, we made patterns in order to quickly subitise 6 things. A 10 frame has been helping us to see and subitise doubles.

We are also practising our special songs during Singing Assembly, ready for our individual class assemblies in front of an audience!

Amazon Wish Lists Amazon Wish Lists

Over the last few years families have very kindly contributed gifts to the school via the Amazon wish list. These gifts are always incredibly well received and have made such a difference to the school community and your children.

This Wish List is populated by teachers who have a clear understanding of the additional resources that are needed and what would make the biggest difference. When completing your purchase, please remember to include a gift receipt stating which year group it should go to and who it is from.

Parking Parking

Reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child. Do not park on zig-zag lines, double yellow lines or block neighbours driveways. Parking on zig-zag lines blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young children who may be harder to see. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
