Mustang Update

Congratulations to our 2024 Homecoming and Queen – Logan Gray and Anne Toerber! Friday night was the culmination of a great week at Valley Heights! Big win for the Mustangs! Special thanks go out to Student Council, Cheer, Dance, Band and Class sponsors for helping our students plan and prepare for this annual event. Great job everyone. Special thanks to the Valley Heights Booster Club for hosting the Pulled Pork Sandwich Summer and worked the concession stand! Also, a word of thanks goes out to the city of Blue Rapids for hosting the Homecoming Parade this year and the area businesses and organizations that had a float in the parade.

We hosted our second night of the Strategic Planning Meetings this past Monday. This night consisted of building tours for all three of our buildings. In my opinion, we had a nice turnout from our communities who play a vital part in our schools. We were able to visit several classrooms and visit with them about our buildings and grounds. The next meeting will be this Monday night, September 30th, with a meal at 5:15 pm and the meeting starting at 5:30 pm. All are welcome!

Monday, September 23rd, we had a day of Professional Development at Valley Heights. I often get asked why we have Professional Development so often. Educators, like many professions, must continually accumulate professional development points to stay current with the many changes and requirements in the educational field. These points are also used for educators to renew their teaching license. For example, this past Monday we met as a district and spent the morning working in a session regarding Student Improvement Teams. This session was led by Greenbush, our learning cooperative. In the afternoon, Mrs. Berger presented a talk on BackPack which is our new IEP program which was followed up by the 23 components of an Individualized Education Plan. The remainder of the time was a meeting with the Building Leadership Team followed up a faculty meeting discussion about future PD agendas!

Activities, activities, activities – as usual!! The Lady Mustangs, currently ranked #5 in Class 2A came away with a clean sweep at Blue Valley Tuesday night! The squad picked up wins over Blue Valley, Washington County and D. West. The ladies will travel to Axtell on Saturday for a tournament! The Mustang football team moved their record to 2-1 for the season with a resounding win over D. West! The boys will be in action on Friday on the home field! Their opponent will be a strong Sacred heart – Salina team. Come on out and watch the action!! Our junior high programs had a successful Thursday night with wins over Clifton-Clyde in both volleyball and football. Our cross country runners travelled to Nemaha Central and had an outstanding meet with three medalists during the competition. Langston Gray finished first in the Junior High Boys Division. In the high school girl’s race Sophomore Lindsay Gray medaled in 12th position. In the high school boy’s race Kebeb Zimmerman finished in 8th and Tyler Holmes in 10th and brought home medals. Great job everyone!

Our FCA organization hosted a “See You at the Pole” event on Wednesday morning. This was an open event for students, adults and community members. The event sponsored a group ministry and prayer for the nation, our communities, the staff and students, and for a successful school year!

October 8th is Parent’s Night for high school volleyball! The purpose of this evening is to recognize the parents of our student athletes and a special nod to the parents of our Seniors. Thanks for all of your support and for all the things you do for you children. We will be hosting the Linn Bulldogs in a double dual. Let’s fill the gym with purple and cheer our Mustangs to victory!

Have a great week!

Mr. Savage
