Coupeville Strong! Coupeville Strong!

Dear Coupeville Families and Community,

As we continue in May, we are proud and gratitude for what we've accomplished together this year. Our students have grown beautifully through challenges and triumphs, supported by caring families, dedicated educators, and our entire Coupeville community.

Celebrating Our Athletes

Our track and softball teams are preparing for playoffs with the same determination and grace that defines our Wolves. We also want to recognize our baseball team - a truly outstanding group of young men who embodied everything we value in Coupeville athletics. These players demonstrated incredible growth in determination and perseverance throughout the season. More importantly, they supported and mentored each other like true brothers, showing that the greatest victories often happen in the relationships we build and the character we develop.

Whether our teams come home with trophies or personal bests, we celebrate every student who has pushed themselves, supported teammates, and shown true sportsmanship. Each practice, each competition, each moment of encouragement builds character that lasts far beyond the playing field.

Honoring Every Learning Journey

As our high school and middle school students complete their testing, and our elementary students prepare to begin, we recognize that each student's journey is unique. Behind every test score is a whole person - curious, creative, resilient. Our teachers have poured their hearts into creating supportive environments where every student can shine in their own way.

As we finish this school year strong, let's carry forward the compassion, respect, and school spirit that make Coupeville truly special. Every student matters. Every effort counts. Every person in our community contributes to the success of our Wolves.

With pride and appreciation,

Shannon Leatherwood, Superintendent

Welcome Mrs. Rebecca Cays!

A Washington native with deep roots on Whidbey Island, Rebecca brings 21 years of experience in education and leadership, both in the U.S. and internationally. She most recently served as the K–12 Assistant Principal at the International Schools Group in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, where she supported students and families representing over 40 nationalities. Her work focused on strengthening instructional practices, developing inclusive systems of support, and fostering a culture of compassion and high expectations.

Rebecca is known for building strong relationships and empowering others to lead. She has led schoolwide professional development in areas such as inquiry-based learning, standards-based grading, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). She’s also helped restructure instructional time, align curriculum across grade levels, and implement data-driven tools to track student growth—academically, socially, and behaviorally. Her leadership ensures that teachers, counselors, administrators, and families work together to meet the needs of every child.

In addition to her instructional leadership, Rebecca brings extensive experience with school athletics and extracurricular programming. She has coached middle school basketball and volleyball, supervised her school’s athletic department, managed event logistics, transportation, facilities, budgets, and coach support—all while building strong relationships with students, families, and community partners. She deeply values the role of co-curricular programs in developing leadership, teamwork, and school spirit.

Now officially settled on Whidbey Island with her husband and two children, Rebecca is excited to return home and contribute to the Coupeville community. She is committed to serving with heart, purpose, and a steadfast focus on student success.
