Happy Friday, Chapelfield Families.

Third graders for the last few weeks have been able to see the life cycle of butterflies thanks to Mr. Williams. Each class has had several caterpillars successful develop into butterflies and we have enjoyed watching students' excitement in these daily releases! The picture above is of Mrs. Troutman's class releasing one on Monday.

Every year, your child goes through many changes and the Chapelfield faculty and staff are grateful to be part of your child's growth. When I am able to be at one of the butterfly releases, I think about the importance of our role in the development of your child's educational journey. Thank you for partnering with us and trusting us to put your child first.

Please pay attention to the counselor corner below to see what we are doing with our first Start with Hello drive. We are having a spirit week and we will have many people saying good morning to your child. Mrs. Jasin has been working hard on developing this program to ensure that every child here knows we see them and care for them!

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Nikki Miller

Hello Chapelfield Families!

Next week is Start with Hello Week at Chapelfield! Start with Hello is a prevention program that teaches children how to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. Start With Hello asks students, educators, parents and other community leaders who interact with children to take steps in class, the lunchroom and/or other times in their day to be inclusive and connected. You can read more about this movement which was started by the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation HERE.

Arrivals and Dismissal HELP Arrivals and Dismissal HELP

At PTO, parents did ask me to show them where they should walk students. It is important students walk on the sidewalks because there is a lot of traffic during arrival and dismissal time. Our goal is to partner with you to make this time smooth and safe. If dropping off or having students coming to you is tough, please consider using the car pool lane. Thank you for your support.

We offer breakfast from 7:40 a.m.- 8:00 a.m. If you want your child to receive a full breakfast, please be at school by then. We open the door at that time.

It is also important to be at school on time so students are ready to learn for the day.

Thank you for your partnership.

News from Mr. Scheibeck News from Mr. Scheibeck

Hello CES families,

My name is Matt Scheibeck and I am the new Physical Education teacher here at Chapelfield. I am so very excited to be here teaching your children!! I grew up in Gahanna. I have so many childhood memories of riding my bike down Lincolnshire or playing at Woodside Green Park. I am very excited to be able to give a little back to the community that I grew up in.

We have had a great start to the year so far! What I really love about CES (and I noticed this from day 1) is how supportive our students are with each other. Our first few weeks we have really accomplished a lot. For example, this week we worked on team building through running relay races. I asked each class the question, “What is one thing you can do to help support your team?” The first thing most of our students responded with was simply “Encourage your team and cheer them on!” I really loved hearing this and would totally agree!

Just a friendly reminder that we do an ABCD day rotation. Some of our students may have PE twice a week. It is really important that we stay safe as we do a lot of movement in P.E. To help us stay safe, it is really important that all students wear the right type of shoes. Crocs, sandals and shoes with heels make it challenging to be able to move around safely.

You may also see your child with a red, white or blue wrist band. It may also have a piece of duct tape (or several) on it. I am a big believer in teaching students to be responsible with their belongings. I use the wrist bands to help with this. They have an opportunity in class to earn a wrist band. Once they earn a wrist band, their next goal is to try and earn 5 pieces of tape to put on their wrist band. Once they reach that goal, I have a small and fun prize for them that they can pick out. I do ask that they try and remember to bring their wrist band back to each P.E. class. (If they forget it, that is totally fine they can still earn a piece of tape).

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached at scheibeckm@gjps.org.

Thank you and have a great day!

Matt Scheibeck
