Welcome Back, Buccaneers!

We are thrilled to welcome our students back to J.L. Long Middle School for the start of a fantastic new school year on Tuesday, August 11th! Doors Open at 8:00 AM. Doors are no longer designated by grade level. Students should enter the closest door from their drop off point. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been working tirelessly to prepare classrooms and learning experiences that inspire, challenge, and support every child.

J.L. Long would like to celebrate Ms. Jesse Bartlett for being a Dallas ISD Heart of Teaching grant recipient. She is one teacher out of 30 winners within the entire district to be recognized. Ms. Bartlett worked tirelessly to create a vision for our Deaf Education students in her campus sewing club bridging her passion and teaching expertise! Thank you, Mr. Kyle Clarke and Ms. Kara Petty for celebrating your team!

The installation of our new gym flooring is currently scheduled to be completed by August 17. As with any construction project, timelines are subject to change, and we will keep you updated if there are any adjustments. Until the gym is ready, our team will make the necessary accommodations for students during PE classes. We appreciate everyone's flexibility as this work is completed.

I'm also pleased to share that HVAC repairs in our auditorium are complete. In addition, several improvements have been made across our campus, including new exterior light poles, improvements to our entry ramp, an updated marquee, and other building upgrades.

Safety continues to be a priority. Exterior door alarms are scheduled to be installed this month, adding another layer of security to our campus. We will keep families updated as that work progresses.

As the semester begins, we will continue our focus on safety and our partnership with Woodrow Wilson High School and district partners, particularly around matters that impact our students and the surrounding community. We appreciate our families' continued partnership as we begin the new school year.
