Art Update

šŸ BEE Welcome! Art Elective

This week our 3rd–6th grade busy bee artists have been weaving with natural materials to create fun accent pieces for bird nesting. Now, we’re ready to take the next big step—beginning construction on the main structure of our nesting wall! From here on out, we’ll be spending the rest of our elective time outdoors working in small teams to bring this community art piece to life.

Please help your artist come prepared:

  • 🄾 Wear pants/leggings or tall socks to protect legs from scratchy grasses

  • šŸŒž Apply sunscreen and bring a water bottle

  • 🧤 Personal garden gloves are encouraged (they’re often more comfortable than school gloves!)

And don’t forget—if you haven’t registered your student for this elective yet, please do so before Fall Break so we can keep buzzing along together!

Plus—don’t miss extra creative opportunities with my Aspiring Artists, Afterschool Art Clubs! Spaces are filling up fast, so be sure to check out my Art Club website for more information if you're interested !

3rd - 6th grade Health and Fitness Update

  • šŸŽÆ Frisbee Frenzy
In Health and Fitness, our 3rd–6th graders started the week with Frisbee Frenzy! Students practiced proper throwing and catching techniques while rotating partners to build confidence, cooperation, and communication.

    šŸƒā€ā™‚ļø Ultimate Frisbee
Next, we transitioned into Ultimate Frisbee. Students learned how to move the frisbee down the field, defend, and score as a team. They also focused on sportsmanship, teamwork, and staying positive during a fast-paced, high-energy game full of quick transitions.

    ⛳ Frisbee Golf
Most recently, we’ve moved into Frisbee Golf, which we’ll continue to play for the rest of the elective. We are lucky to have frisbee golf sets for everyone! Students are learning about different types of frisbees—drivers, mid-range, and putters—and when to use them. They’ve also been practicing accuracy, distance control, and proper turn order (the student furthest from the bucket throws first).

    šŸ’” Creativity in Action
Students have been using their creativity by moving a bucket to different locations to serve as new ā€œholes.ā€ This simple change makes each round unique and keeps the game challenging and fun. Frisbee Golf has been a great way for students to combine physical activity, strategy, and teamwork!

Music Update

Recorder Karate Elective Update šŸŽ¶

Our Recorder Karate elective is moving along wonderfully, and students are showing great growth as young musicians! They are becoming more confident in reading music, counting rhythms, and understanding both 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures.

With these skills, many students are earning their colored belts and moving smoothly through the program. Each new belt represents not just a new song, but also a big step in their musical progress.

Beyond individual playing, we’ve also been enjoying the experience of performing together. As a group, students have played songs like a band, learning how to listen and blend their sound. Some have even taken on the challenge of playing in two-part duets, which has been a fun way to collaborate and grow musically.

It’s been exciting to see their confidence grow each week, and I’m so proud of the teamwork, focus, and joy they’re bringing to our music room!
