PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Happy Friday Cougar Families!

Welcome Back! This is the first Paw Prints of the 2026-27 school year and I would like to start by welcoming all of our new families to this weekly newsletter. Paw Prints will be sent out every Friday and is full of valuable Steele Canyon information that will keep you connected to the happenings about campus.

I am very impressed with the patience our families displayed navigating traffic on the first couple of days. I promise that it will settle in the coming days and you will find our traffic patterns to be predictable. A couple of short reminders that help keep everyone safe.

  • Always kindly adhere to the directions of our campus security.

  • Never drive on the shoulder

  • Always follow the laws of the road

  • Mornings: Students can be dropped off early. Breakfast is served and tutoring begins at 7:15. Drivers coming from Jamacha Rd. are encouraged to use the back of the school for student drop-off so that the outer turn lane can be more efficiently used

  • Neighbors: Please be respectful of our Steele Canyon neighbors. Do not use Iron Oak Canyon Ranch or Noah Homes for student drop off.

  • Bicycle Riders: Student bicycle riders should follow all cycling laws and walk their cycles on campus.

It is the responsibility of all of us to keep our school a safe place. Keep it up and thank you for doing your part.

Please don’t forget that Curriculum Night is on Thursday evening, August 13. The evening opens with a welcome address at 5:40 PM in the gymnasium. Curriculum night is an opportunity for families to visit the classrooms and meet the teachers. Hope to see you there!

We are looking forward to an awesome 2026-27 school year, please let us know how we can make your Steele Canyon experience a success!

Have a safe and awesome weekend!

Rah! Rah! Cougars!

Parents as Observers on Canvas

Why Be a Canvas Observer?

Becoming a Canvas Observer allows parents to stay connected to their student's learning. They can see upcoming assignments, grades, feedback from teachers, and course announcements—all without interfering in the student’s work. It’s a great way to support your child, encourage good study habits, and celebrate their achievements in real time.

Most parents have had their emails already loaded into the system. Please follow the directions to log in:

  1. Go to https://schscougars.instructure.com/login/canvas
  2. User name is your email account
  3. Password is: welcome2026

If your email is not part of the system or one of your students is missing, you can manually add them by following THESE DIRECTIONS.

Still need Canvas help? Email cturrubiartes@schscougars.org

GoGuardian Parent
GoGuardian Parent was created to help provide additional educational support to administrators and teachers by allowing parents to see what sites and documents their children are browsing and providing parents with additional internet controls at home. The app gives parents a bird's eye view of the apps and websites that their kids are on most often and control over school-issued devices during out-of-school hours. With this perspective, parents can be made aware of what types of browsing behavior schools are seeing from students so they can all work together to encourage more effective internet browsing habits at home and at school.
What is included in this app:

  • Top 5 summary of student browsing (apps, extensions, documents, and websites visited)
  • Teacher interventions
  • 30-day view of websites, videos, documents, apps, and extensions
  • Ability to block websites on school-issued devices during out-of-school hours
  • Ability to pause internet access on school-issued devices during out-of-school hours, either on-demand or at a scheduled time

To access the app, please follow the below instructions:

  1. Download the app. iPhone: Visit App Store, search for GoGuardian Parent, and tap the download button. Android: Visit Google Play Store, search for GoGuardian Parent, and tap the download button.
  2. After the app is successfully downloaded and installed, open it up and enter the email address registered with the school. Note: If you forgot your registered email address, please reach out to your school administrator.
  3. Login/Check Email: Check your email on your phone for a link to log in to the app. Tap the "Verify your email", and it will take you straight to the app. Note: If you don't have access to your email through the device you used to log in, tap on "Login with verification code", and copy and paste the verification code from the email into the app.

If you have any questions, you can reach us at helpdesk@schscougars.org

5Star Student Student IDs

In order to provide options for our students, Cougars can access their 5Star Student IDs by downloading the 5Star student app through the app store. (Apple Store or Google Play). These digital IDs can be used for cafeteria meal pick up, exiting campus, showing participation in club activities, etc. Physical student IDs are always an option as well.
