Malvern Families,

This month at Malvern, our Red Hawks are learning about Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind and focusing on the character trait of Responsibility. Being responsible means taking action, making thoughtful choices, and understanding how our decisions impact ourselves and others. We are encouraging students to set goals, plan ahead, and follow through on commitments in and out of the classroom. You can support this habit at home by talking with your child about setting personal goals and celebrating the small steps they take toward reaching them.

From campus news to important updates, the Malvern Messenger has you covered!

Proud to be a Red Hawk,

Inetra Nelson, Principal & Melinna Herrera, Assistant Principal

Inetra Nelson, Directora y Melinna Herrera, Subdirectora

Parent Consent for Student Club Participation Parent Consent for Student Club Participation

At McKinney ISD, one of our top priorities is making sure every student feels connected and has opportunities to get involved. We know that when students find activities, clubs, and organizations they enjoy, they build stronger relationships, feel a greater sense of belonging, and are more engaged in school. In accordance with Senate Bill 12, McKinney ISD requires parent approval for students to participate in any student club or organization. All student clubs and organizations must comply with district guidelines and state law.

Please use this Parent Consent Form to provide or deny permission for your child to participate in student clubs at our school.

By working together, we can make sure every student finds a place to belong and thrive.

Exciting October Events at Malvern Elementary Exciting October Events at Malvern Elementary

Fall is in the air at Malvern Elementary, and our Red Hawks have some exciting opportunities to look forward to this October!

First up is our October Reading Challenge. Each student will be bringing home a challenge page in their red folder, full of fun activities designed to spark a love of reading. We encourage families to work together to complete as many of the challenges as possible throughout the month. Completed pages should be returned to the library by Friday, November 3rd. Students who participate will have the chance to win some exciting prizes!

One special part of the challenge is our Storybook Pumpkin Patch. Students are invited to decorate a pumpkin based on a favorite book or book character. These creative pumpkins will be displayed in the library, transforming it into a colorful and imaginative patch for everyone to enjoy. Learn more!

We can’t wait to see our Red Hawks dive into reading and share their creativity this October!

October Counseling Focus October Counseling Focus

This month in counseling, we are building on September’s lessons and introducing new skills to help students grow as leaders and learners.

  • Character Trait: Responsibility
  • Students are learning what it means to be responsible—taking ownership of their choices, completing tasks, and being dependable at school and at home.
  • Conflict Resolution & Problem Solving

We are practicing peaceful ways to solve problems with peers, including listening, using kind words, and working together to find solutions.

  • Review of Self-Regulation & Coping Skills

We will continue practicing strategies such as deep breathing, positive self-talk, and taking a break to manage big emotions.

  • Review of Respect

Students will revisit the importance of showing respect to themselves, others, and their school environment.

💡 At home tip: Ask your child how they can show responsibility this week. Encourage them to share how they solved a problem respectfully or used a coping skill to calm down.

Visitors and Volunteers Visitors and Volunteers

  • MISD requires every visitor/volunteer to report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. At the camera outside of the school, please state your name, show your ID, and explain why you are here at school.

  • A software system called “Hallpass School Visitor Management” is used to scan in visitors. A valid, unexpired state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return to campus when you have identification. A photocopy of your ID will not be accepted.

  • MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application.

MISD will not offer a grace period this school year for you to complete your annual background check. All background checks must be completed and approved before you can serve on campus.
