Wrangler Round Up
9/25/26
Principal's Message
Howdy Wranglers!
Wranglers, we are officially heading into the final stretch of the first nine weeks! This is an important time for students to stay focused, finish strong, and take responsibility for their learning.
As we approach the end of the nine weeks, please take some time to check your student’s grades and have them talk with their teachers about any missing or failing assignments. There may still be opportunities to make up work, demonstrate learning, and improve grades before the nine weeks comes to a close.
We also encourage you to read the information below about i-Ready. Understanding how we use i-Ready to support student learning can help you better understand your child’s progress and know how to support them at home.
We also want to remind everyone about the importance of getting to class on time. We are seeing an increase in tardies across campus. Students are assigned lunch detention for every three tardies, and when tardiness becomes a habitual issue, additional consequences may be assigned. Being on time is an important part of being prepared to learn and helps students make the most of every minute of instructional time.
Lastly, please consider some of the wonderful parent involvement opportunities including PTA and field trip chaperone opportunities. Your involvement matters and is so important to your student's success!
Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to help every Wrangler finish the nine weeks strong.
Warmly,
Linda Cragin, Principal
PTA!
Get Involved with Hedrick PTA!
We would love to see more of our Hedrick families involved with PTA this year! PTA is a great way to stay connected to what is happening on campus, support our students and staff, and have a voice in the activities and programs that make Hedrick a great place to be.
Join us for our next PTA meeting on Wednesday, September 30, at 6:00 p.m. and get involved! All parents and guardians are welcome to attend. If you would like to participate in voting during this membership meeting, you will need to be a PTA member. Membership is just $11.50 and can be completed online at joinpta.org or by scanning the QR code provided. Cash or check payments will also be accepted at the meeting, although we will not be able to provide change.
During this meeting, we will also be electing our PTA Board Members for the year:
President
VP1 – Membership
VP2 – Ways & Means/Fundraising
VP3 – Volunteers
VP4 – Programs
Secretary
Treasurer
You don't have to have PTA experience to get involved! Whether you are able to take on a leadership role, volunteer occasionally, attend meetings, or simply become a member, your involvement makes a difference. We hope you'll join us and help make this a great year for our Hedrick students and families!
I-Ready Assessments and Pathways
As students are working through their everyday academics in English Language Arts and Math classes, we as a campus are using a program called iReady to help meet students’ individual needs. Students took a diagnostic assessment at the end of August to show what grade level they are performing at. Everyday at the beginning of sixth period, students are working through an individualized pathway to help meet the gaps of knowledge that were demonstrated during the diagnostic. We are calling this time “Level Up,” as students are leveling up their abilities.
Students take i-Ready Inform at the beginning of the school year and up to two more times in the school year, giving your child’s teacher a complete picture of the students’ skills, needs, and growth over time.
You can view your student’s score and progress at https://login.i-ready.com/
Log in with District Report code 91PJY0
Your child’s ELA and Math teachers are discussing their results in class. Students’ results will be coming home soon on a piece of paper. Discuss these results with your student. Celebrate their strengths and progress, and collaborate with them on planning how they will reach their goals! In some classes like Reading and Math labs, students already have a goal of how your child will work in ELA and Math to continue building their strengths and work to increase their abilities in areas of growth.
What if my student is performing below grade level?
This situation can happen, and teachers and schools have many strategies and programs to help accelerate your student’s learning. Having this information can help you, your student, and their teachers have the right conversations to make the needed progress.

Counselor's Corner
In Lewisville ISD, the whole child is at the core of everything we do as a district,
including our students' mental, emotional and physical health. With counselors
on every campus, LISD knows parents want their children to receive an
outstanding education, but more importantly, they want their children to be
nurtured and cared for beyond just academics.
LISD provides student wellness lessons over various topics throughout the year to ensure each child receives the support they need to develop every aspect of their being. Parents can preview student wellness lessons provided by the Counseling Department by visiting the link below.
7th Grade Parents - Academic Lunch Groups and Field Trip Chaperone Opportunity
Academic Goals Lunch Bunch
Beginning next week 9/14/2026 7th grade students will be able to apply to a lunch time small group with their 7th grade counselor Ms. Newton.
In the application will include the following questions:
On a scale of 1 to 5, how much do you want your grades or study habits to improve this semester?"
What made you want to apply for this group during lunch?
When you struggle in a class, do you usually know why you are struggling, or does it feel like a mystery?
How do you currently prepare for a test or quiz?
When you set a goal (like 'I want an A in Math'), do you usually create a step-by-step plan, or do you just hope it happens?
How often do you lose track of assignments, forget due dates, or leave your backpack/binder disorganized?
When you don't understand an assignment or disagree with a grade, what do you usually do?
Ideal candidates will be highly motivated to improve their academic, goal setting, organization, and self-advocacy skills.
Once applications are completed, Ms. Newton will select students for the small group and send home permission forms to parents.
Here is a preview of the sessions and material that will be covered in these small groups.
