The Learning Collaborative
Last month we launched The Learning Collaborative or TLC, which is made for Vista teachers, by Vista teachers. TLC is a repository of resources and professional development. It’s a place for VUSD educators to share some of their best practices and to get ideas and support from colleagues across the district. The Learning Collaborative was created to provide on-demand and live professional development for all staff members in the Vista Unified School District. If you haven’t yet accepted the invitation to this course, please make sure that you do so on your Canvas Dashboard so that you have access to this resource.
One of the elementary resources includes landing pages for Eureka Math. These landing pages are organized by grade level and module. As of right now, they include a Youtube linked video for you to embed on Canvas and the PDFs for the problem sets, exit tickets, and assessments. These are live documents which will be built upon as the year progresses. We recommend that you bookmark the main page so you have quick access. Due to copyright restrictions, these are only shareable with VUSD employees. You can download the PDFs to your Google Drive and use them for Kami assignments!
TLC is looking for elementary teachers who are willing to be recorded! As part of this collaborative effort, we are looking for teachers who are interested in allowing us to record their Eureka Math and/or Benchmark Universe lessons. Please fill out this form if you’re interested in participating.
Recorded Pd's and Resources
If you want access to the The Learning Collaborative on Canvas and do not see the tile, please email taresamcspadden@vistausd.org and she will add you to the course.
Technology Tips and Tricks
How to filter out old assignments when syncing grades to Aeries
Are you sick of having to filter through old assignments from the previous semester when trying to sync your grades from Canvas to Aeries? If you want to remove those assignments from the syncing window, please watch this video or follow the directions below to make this process easier.
Directions:
Go to your assignments in Canvas and find an assignment that is part of a previous semester.
Click on the small green check mark to turn it into a black x . This means that this assignment will no longer sync to Aeries.
Repeat this process for any assignment that you no longer want to sync to the new gradebook in Aeries.
Go to your grades, select “actions,” and select “sync to Aeries”. You should now only be able to select the assignments that have a green check mark.
Select “Post Grades.”
If you have any issues syncing grades or need any support with Canvas, please fill out our Technology Help Form with as much information as possible and one of our TLC TOSA’s will be in touch with you!
Secondary Teachers: How to Start a New Canvas Gradebook in a Year Long Course
If you have a year-long course, but would like to start a new gradebook for the second semester, here are step-by-step directions on how to do this. Also, if you are looking at your gradebook in Canvas and no longer see your grades from 1st semester, you can always change that by turning this filter on.
Directions:
In a Canvas course, select “grades” on the navigation bar
Select “view” at the top left to access the drop down menu
Then hover over “filters” and select “grading periods”
A new text box will appear on the right hand side of the screen that will allow you to filter the gradebook by semester or view the year as a whole.
Students will now also have the option to view their grades for each semester separately in their own “grades” section in Canvas.
If you sync your grades to Aeries, please remember that you will need to create a new gradebook in Aeries for second semester and make sure that all assignments have due dates that match their semester gradebook.
If you have any issues accessing this new filter or do not see the option to filter by grading periods for your site, please contact kirstenturner@vistausd.org.
IT Work Order vs. Technology Help Form
If you have checked with your Canvas Site Expert and still need support, you can fill out our Technology Help Form and we will assist you! The technology help form is meant for help with Canvas. The IT Work order can help with technology set up (printers, monitors, etc), account supports (Aeries, Cloud Connect, etc). If you need support with Lexia or AR, these are site based and your administrator should be able to support you. If further support is needed, you can put in a work order under accounts.
