Inclement Weather Messages:

Families,

If you have not received our inclement weather communication, information may be missing from your Student Contact Management Form in the Parent PowerSchool Portal.

PowerSchool launched this new form for all districts this year, and families must have up-to-date information to ensure they receive district messages.

To review and update your information:

  1. Log into your Parent PowerSchool Portal.

  2. In the left-hand menu, select Forms.

  3. Find and open the Student Contact Management Form.

  4. Add or confirm your address, phone number, and email.

  5. Make sure the box labeled “Receives Communication” is checked.

  6. Ensure all parents/guardians are listed and have complete contact information.

Keeping this form up to date ensures you receive important alerts, including weather-related notifications.

March 10th- ACT Day: From Dr. Lackey

Dear Smithville Families,

Tuesday, March 10th is our ACT Day where our Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen will be taking exams in the morning. Below is some additional information for that day.

Seniors

· Seniors will be taking a field trip to the Kansas City Zoo. Buses will load students in the morning in front of the school (8:45am) and will return at the end of the day (2:40pm). Lunch will not be provided. Please bring your lunch or money for lunch.

Juniors

· In November, students selected which post-secondary exam they wanted to complete. This is a graduation requirement. If students are absent on 3/11, they will be required to make up their exam. The options they could choose were the ACT, Accuplacer, ASVAB or WorkKeys.

· Testing for most juniors will finish by 12:00pm. If your student has accommodations they may test until the end of the day or over multiple days.

· Additional testing logistics, such as room and proctor assignment will go to your student’s email on Friday, 3/6/26.

Sophomores

· All sophomores will take the PreACT. The PreACT is a low-stakes pre-exam for the ACT. The PreACT is a slightly shorter, slightly easier exam designed to help students prepare for the official ACT exam.

· Testing for most sophomores will finish by 11:00am. If your student has accommodations they will finish around 12:30pm.

· Additional testing logistics, such as room and proctor assignment will go to your student’s email on Friday, 3/6/26.

Freshmen

· All freshmen will take the PreACT 8/9. The PreACT 8/9 is a multiple-choice assessment that provides 9th grade students an early measure of College and Career Readiness while serving as a practice opportunity for the ACT.

· Testing for most freshmen will finish by 11:00am. If your student has accommodations they will finish around 12:30pm.

· Additional testing logistics, such as room and proctor assignment will go to your student’s email on Friday, 3/6/26.

Test Details

· Students will not be allowed to have their cell phones, smart watches or computers on their person throughout the duration of testing.

· The ACT and PreACTs are timed tests. Students who finish a test section early will need to sit quietly until the proctor signals the completion of the session. Students will not be allowed to have cell phones until they are dismissed from the final test session.

· We recommend that students bring their own water bottles for their 10-minute break.

· Students will need to bring their own calculator. Cell phones, tablets or laptops are prohibited.

· All tests are of no cost to our students. Even if a student has taken the ACT, taking additional tests provides students with an opportunity to increase their existing score.

Post-Exam Activities

· Smithville has created a variety of activities for students after their exams are finished.

· Students will have an opportunity to eat a school lunch.

· Bus transportation will run as normal at the end of the day.

Nurse Note: Attention Junior Parents

Your student will need a Meningitis Booster before entering 12th grade.

Any student over the age of 16 is eligible to receive this booster.

This vaccination is REQUIRED for 12th grade. They will not be allowed to start the school year without this vaccine or a state accepted exemption.

Schedule an appointment with your child's pediatrician or with the Clay County Health Department by calling 816-595-4355. Most pharmacies also administer this vaccine - (Costco, Sam's, Walgreens, etc.) on a walk-in basis.

Please upload a copy of the vaccination record to PowerSchool or email Nurse Cassie. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Deadline to turn in this vaccine is April 6th, 2026.
