The Cannon Connection
2023-2024 Newsletter for Cannon Elementary Families
We are Cannon Proud! ☮️❤️⚙️🐻
January 14-20, 2024
Good morning, Cannon families,
We hope all of our families enjoy the extended weekend as we honor Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 15. Please make sure to bundle up and monitor the weather. We hope to see all of our scholars Tuesday, January 16th. In the event of hazardous weather, GCISD will notify families via phone calls, texts, and social media if closures are needed. If you would like to learn more, please visit https://www.gcisd.net/page/inclement-weather
This past week, we had the honor of hosting several members of our Colleyville and Grapevine Chamber leadership. Our Cannon Choir performed beautifully and our 5th grade STEMbassadors lead groups with confidence and STEMtastic leadership. It's always amazing to see our students step up, lead, and showcase their talents and our school. We are extremely proud of our Cannon community, and the amazing things we are doing to prepare our scholars to serve and lead in our community!
The GCISD Council of PTAs reflections results are in and we have Cannon Scholars to celebrate! GCISD had 44 very talented entries. Ten entries have been sent to Texas PTA to compete at the state level. Congratulations to all participants! Help me congratulate Ivy and Ian Lin for winning at the district level! Ivy also earned an "Overall" winning title for her poem, it has been sent to Texas PTA. We will have a reflections reception at the end of February (more to come on that). Congratulations Ian and Ivy!
Our first round of STAAR interims went very well and we will continue this week with 3rd-5th reading and math. It's important that our scholars do their best so that we can design instruction to support their needs leading up to STAAR testing days. We administer our interims identically to official STAAR testing days. Once our scholars start, we can not interrupt them. That said, please do not schedule appointments on testing days; We will not be able to interrupt testing and release your child. Our campus will be closed for test security protocols on testing days; this does include no lunch visitors or deliveries. Thank you for your support and help to create a positive and secure testing environment.
Please make sure your scholar arrives on time each morning prepared with their charged iPad or Chromebook. EVERY DAY COUNTS! As a reminder staff is available at 7:20 and doors open at 7:25. Scholars are late after 7:40 and breakfast is no longer available. Also, 👟please remember to send students in sneakers - especially on PE days!
Proud to be your principal,
Dr. Tina Garrett

Our Cannon STEMbassadors!
Help me celebrate their strong representation of Cannon; Their confidence, leadership, and character are to be celebrated! I would also like to take this opportunity to celebrate Mrs. Hagar for leading our STEMbassadors to greatness! Thank you for leading Cannon so well, STEMbassadors!

2023 Federal School Report Cards
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), requires each state education agency to prepare and publish an annual report card. The Federal Report Card (FRC) for Texas Public Schools is a web-based system that generates the required federal report cards at the state, district, and campus levels for easy dissemination by school districts. Every district that receives Title I, Part A funding is responsible for distributing the FRCs to each of its campuses, the parents of all enrolled students, and the general public.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the 2023 Federal Report Cards at the State, District, and Campus level with information as required by federal law. The Federal Report Cards do not contain 2023 State Accountability Rating information.
To view our district and campus federal report cards, please visit our Accountability webpage for a link to search on TEA's site or click on the red "Archived State and Federal SRCs" button the bottom of our district's Accountability page.
