Edison Newsletter!
September 3rd, 2024
Dear Edison family,
I’m excited to announce that we will now be allowing parents to eat lunch with their students on designated days! We know how much you value spending time with your children, and we are happy to offer this opportunity again.
Parent Lunch Days Schedule:
- Tuesdays: Pre-K and Kindergarten
- Thursdays: 1st Grade
We want to ensure this process runs smoothly and that our students continue to enjoy a positive lunch experience. Below are a few guidelines to keep in mind:
- Check-in: Please arrive a few minutes before your child's lunchtime to check in at the front office. Don’t forget your photo ID.
- Lunch Area: Parents and students will eat together on the cafeteria stage to ensure smooth transitions for all students.
- Respectful Environment: We ask that all families maintain a respectful, calm atmosphere so that everyone enjoys their lunch.
- No Sharing of Food: Due to food allergies, absolutely no food or drink can be shared with other students.
If you have any questions or need more details, feel free to reach out to our office staff. We look forward to seeing you during lunch!
Thank you for your continued support in making Edison Elementary a great place to learn and grow!
Reoccurring reminders:
Reading and Writing at home: We do a great deal of reading and writing at school. Parents/Guardians, if you could help us out by helping your kiddos with their home work, also reading to them, and having them write something short and age appropriate (pre-k: trace some letters, Kinder: write a few short words, 1st grade: write a short sentence), would go a long way.
Homework Reminder: I want to take this opportunity to encourage all parents to support their children with their homework. Your involvement in your child's education plays a crucial role in their academic success. By working together, we can ensure that our students are reaching their full potential.
Parental Involvement: Research consistently shows that students perform better in school when their parents are actively involved in their education. I am proud to share that our school has seen a significant increase in parental engagement over the past year. Let's keep up this positive momentum as we work together to support our children's learning journey.
Summer School Update: I must inform you that there will not be summer school offered this year for attendance recovery. Therefore, it is imperative that your student attend school on time each and every day unless they are sick.
New school policy: Parents, we will not allow early pick up of students after 3pm, including Doctors appointments, etc...
Thank you, and have a blessed week!

Student Parent Lunch Times and Grades:
Tuesdays: pre-k and Kindergarten parents/guardians can eat on the stage in the cafeteria with their students.
Thursdays: First grade parents/guardians can eat on the stage in the cafeteria with their students.
Please help us out by keeping to the specific day of the week that we have assigned for each grade level.
Also, this is very important, due to food allergies, sharing of any food or drink with another student is strictly prohibited.
Lastly, please do not check out your student after lunch as this will cause them to miss valuable instruction.
We appreciate your support. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you,
Celebrating Custodian Appreciation Day!

Join the GISD Parent Advisory Committee!
Dr. Stewart would like to invite our GISD parents and guardians to join the 2024-2025 Parent Advisory Committee (P.A.C.). We recognize that parental involvement is one of the cornerstones of a thriving educational community. The P.A.C. provides a platform for parents like YOU to contribute to the shaping of the future of GISD. Your insights, perspectives, and ideas are invaluable as we navigate the exciting challenges and opportunities that come with a growing city and school district.
There are four meetings scheduled for the year: October 9, December 11, February 12, April 9. All meetings are held from 5:30 - 7pm. Each meeting will cover a variety of topics and will give you the opportunity to discuss important topics within GISD and public education.
We hope you can join us! Our goal is to have 100 people attend! Please consider coming to share YOUR voice!
