Weekly Update
Dear Booker Families,
A Note from the Principal
💙🐾 Booker Bengals — Every Day Counts! 🐾💙
Dear Booker Families,
We are entering the last week before Thanksgiving Break, and with only 5 school days left until MOY testing, every minute matters. Please help us by ensuring your child is at school on time each day and avoiding early pick-ups unless absolutely necessary. Even one missed hour can add up to a full day of lost learning in a week. Let’s finish this week strong by checking grades, reviewing reading logs, homework, and reviewing our BOY scores! We can't reach our goal if we don't know where we started! So, let's stay focused and prepared. Together, we are helping every Bengal reach their MOY goals and showing that Booker is on the move — Turnaround in Action!
and help get BOOKER BETTER FASTER!
We also want to remind our families about our ANNUAL FAMILY FEAST DAY this Friday! Don't forget to purchase your tickets and get your preprinted ID badges EARLY! Avoid the line, get your tickets ahead of time! We look forward to seeing all of you!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

MOYs coming the first week in December!
Subject: Upcoming Middle-of-the-Year Assessments (Pre-K – 5th Grade)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Beginning December 1, 2025, students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade will participate in the district’s Middle-of-the-Year (MOY) assessments. These tests help gauge student progress on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and allow teachers to better support your child’s learning through targeted instruction, reteach, and intervention. All assessments will be administered online, and the testing window will run from December 1–5, 2025. Specific testing dates will vary by grade level and subject area.
Assessment Schedule by Grade Level:
● Pre-Kindergarten: CIRCLE Assessments
● Kindergarten – 2nd Grade: mCLASS/Lectura (Reading) and NWEA MAP (Math)
● 3rd – 5th Grade: NWEA MAP (Reading and Math)
● 5th Grade Only: NWEA MAP (Science)
Please note that there may be some adjustments to your child’s daily schedule during the testing window to allow sufficient time for assessment completion. If your child receives physical accommodations, please ensure they are available on the day of testing. Digital accommodations are available within the online platform based on individual student needs.
If you have any questions, please contact your campus for more information. Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education.

Tema: Próximas evaluaciones de mitad de año (Pre-K - 5to grado)
Estimados padres y tutores,
- Pre-Kindergarten: Evaluaciones CIRCLE
- Kindergarten – 2do Grado: mCLASS/Lectura (Lectura) y NWEA MAP (Matemáticas)
- 3º – 5º grado: NWEA MAP (Lectura y Matemáticas)
- Solo 5to grado: NWEA MAP (Ciencias)
Si tiene alguna pregunta, comuníquese con su escuela para obtener más información. Gracias por su continuo apoyo en la educación de su hijo.

🏠 Family Challenge of the Week
Strong students practice at home, too!
This week, help your child:
📝Review their student goals. Reach out to the teacher to get your child's BOY scores if you've misplaced them and their STAAR scores if they are 4th and 5th graders.)
📚 Read and discuss a book daily and ask them questions!
🧠 Make your child use complete sentences when speaking and writing!
🙏 Share what they're thankful for as we get closer to our Thanksgiving break!
Small routines build big academic wins.
Mindset of Mastery – No Mediocre Thinking Allowed
As we move through our 28-day countdown to mid-year testing, I want to take a moment to talk about mindset—specifically, the Mindset of Mastery.
💭 Mastery Over Mediocre
At Booker, “good enough” is no longer good enough. Our scholars deserve a learning experience built on excellence, not excuses.
We are challenging every student to aim higher:
-
Not just approaching grade-level expectations, but MEETING and MASTERING THEM!
-
Not settling for “almost there,” but pushing for “I got it!”
-
Not comparing themselves to others, but striving to beat their own best.
📖 A Mastery Mindset Starts at Home
You can help by reinforcing high expectations every day:
-
Read with your child and ask comprehension questions.
-
Review math facts daily—addition, subtraction, multiplication.
-
Encourage your child to speak in full sentences and explain their thinking.
-
Set boundaries around screen time and make time for meaningful conversations.
Ask your child:
“What did you master today?”
“What skill are you still working on?”
These questions help students think critically and stay goal-oriented.
💪 We Can and We Will
Turning around a campus isn’t just about changing numbers—it’s about changing mindsets.
When students, teachers, and families all believe that mastery is possible for every scholar, the results will follow.

MEDICAL ALERT UPDATE!
STATE LAW - HELP US HELP YOUR CHILD WHILE AT SCHOOL!
In accordance with Senate Bill 12 (SB 12), parents now have the option to opt out of allowing their child to be seen in the school clinic during the school day.
Please note that if you choose to opt out:
Your child may only be seen in the clinic for emergency situations.
Regular or non-emergency visits to the nurse (such as headaches, stomachaches, minor scrapes, or other routine concerns) will not be allowed.
You will be contacted to pick up your child for non-emergency situations.
screenings like eyesight, hearing, and scoliosis can not be performed.
We urge you to carefully consider this decision, as opting out significantly limits our ability to support your child’s health needs during the school day.
To ensure your child can receive full care in the clinic, please complete the consent form at the link below: SB 12 Health Consent Form
If you have any questions before making this decision, please contact our school nurse:
Mrs. Hughes, RN
Phone: 281-891-8757
Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for working with us to keep all Razorbacks safe and healthy.
If you have already completed the form, we thank you for your prompt attention.
