PARENT AND CARER CODE OF CONDUCT PARENT AND CARER CODE OF CONDUCT

Information regarding Catholic Education Western Australia’s (CEWA’s) new Parent and Carer Code of Conduct was shared with families via Seesaw on Monday 20 July 2026. We are committed to building a school community where every child can flourish. The new Parent and Carer Code of Conduct articulates our shared expectations for respectful engagement, safety and support. By working together in partnership, families and staff help create a welcoming environment where all students are valued and empowered to succeed. The Code can be found on our school website.

P&F DISCO P&F DISCO

It was wonderful seeing our students have great fun at the neon themed discos on Friday 7 August. I thank our P&F Committee and their team of helpers for all their work in organising the discos. A big thank you also to all who purchased tickets, in support of our school. Finally, thank you to our staff who were able to pop in throughout the evening. Fun was had by all!

CREATIVE EDGE CREATIVE EDGE

I wish our Creative Edge team well as they prepare for the Regional Final, taking place at Curtin University on Saturday 29 August. Under the guidance of Mrs Alison Yeo (Enrichment Teacher), our students have been busy preparing for this challenge. The Creative Edge experience provides participants with opportunities to develop both critical and creative thinking skills and experiment with original ways to communicate their challenge solution to an audience.

LEARNING JOURNEY LEARNING JOURNEY

We look forward to our Learning Journey, taking place Wednesday 16 September 2:00 – 4:00pm. This provides a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate their learning from the term with parents and caregivers. Parents are welcome to sign their child/ren out of school early, if concluding their Learning Journey experience prior to 3:00pm.

PRE-KINDY 2027 AND KINDERGARTEN 2028 PRE-KINDY 2027 AND KINDERGARTEN 2028

We are now accepting enrolment applications for Pre-Kindy 2027 (Three-Year-Old Kindy) and Kindergarten 2028. Interviews for families seeking a place in Pre-Kindy next year, and Kindergarten the following year are currently taking place.

In accordance with Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) policy, enrolment in Pre-Kindy does not automatically guarantee a place in Kindergarten. Families who wish their child to continue into Kindergarten and beyond from 2028 are therefore required to submit both the Pre-Kindy and Kindergarten–Year Six enrolment applications.

Families will find our updated enrolment application forms on our school website. Please direct any enrolment enquiries to enrolments@stbrigidsms.wa.edu.au, or contact Mrs Victoria Kellaway (Administration Officer, Monday – Wednesday).

Our Pre-Kindy places for 2027 are filling fast and I encourage you to submit an enrolment application form as soon as possible if you are interested in joining Pre-Kindy next year. Please note, our Pre-Kindy day next year will be Thursday. Kindergarten will remain Monday – Wednesday.

PARISH CARPARK PARISH CARPARK

Parents and carers are reminded that the car park adjacent to the school car park is parish property belonging to St Brigid's Parish and is not school land. We ask all families using this car park to adhere to the established traffic flow pattern to support the safety and smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL

The school gates open at 8:25am, and students should not be waiting outside the gates without the supervision of a parent or carer before this time. We continue to see students arriving significantly earlier than 8:25am, with some arriving before 8:00am. Please be reminded that the school assumes responsibility for students from 8:25am onwards. As such, students are not to be waiting outside the school gate without a parent or carer prior to this time. Families requiring supervision before 8:25am are encouraged to utilise the services of Camp Australia, which provides a supervised before-school care option.

GET WELL SOON, HELEN! GET WELL SOON, HELEN!

I was once again reminded of the care and compassion that define our St Brigid’s community on Tuesday afternoon when Helen, the Traffic Warden who works outside our school, suffered a fall as the school day was ending. I would like to sincerely thank the many parents and carers who alerted our staff to Helen’s fall, offered assistance, and contacted the school to enquire about her wellbeing. We have since been informed that Helen is recovering well and is deeply appreciative of the support and kindness she received. Thank you, St Brigid’s community, for demonstrating such genuine care and concern. Your kindness is a wonderful reflection of the values we strive to live each day.

Embedding a Reggio Emilia Approach to Teaching and Learning Embedding a Reggio Emilia Approach to Teaching and Learning

Since February 2026, Anneliese Paull (Kindy W Teacher), Bonnie Faed (Kindy B Teacher) and I have been engaged in the Embedding a Reggio Emilia Approach to Teaching and Learning project. This enriching journey has provided us with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to implement a Christ-centred, child-focused Catholic educational program that promotes the holistic development of every child.

Throughout the year, we have participated in a range of professional learning experiences, each encouraging us to reflect deeply on how we listen to children, understand their perspectives and create environments that invite curiosity, connection and meaningful learning. We will continue this journey as we work towards preparing our Showcase in November.

A highlight of our learning was travelling to Melbourne for the Study Tour, Leading for Participation: Co-creating Pedagogical Culture through the Reggio Emilia Principles. Across three intensive days, we immersed ourselves in rich professional learning, shared ideas and experiences with educators from across Australia, and explored how Reggio Emilia principles can be thoughtfully interpreted and applied within an Australian educational context.

We were particularly fortunate to visit Bialik College in Melbourne, where we explored their Bialik Children’s Centre, Kindergarten (3 and 4) and Prep and Year 1 classrooms. The visit offered valuable opportunities to observe how Reggio Emilia-inspired principles can come to life through intentional environments, meaningful relationships, collaboration and a deep respect for children as capable and active participants in their learning.

This photo captures our WA team alongside Daphne Gaddie, Head of the Early Learning Centre & Junior Primary at Bialik College, and Kirsty Liljegren, Reggio Emilia Pedagogical Coach. We were incredibly grateful for the generosity of these inspiring educators and the opportunity to learn alongside them.

Our time in Melbourne has deepened our understanding of the importance of listening to children, creating environments that communicate a sense of belonging, and fostering rich relationships that support children to explore, wonder and make meaning. We return with renewed inspiration and many ideas to consider as we continue developing our own practice.

This journey reminds us that embedding Reggio Emilia principles is not simply about changing what we do; it is about continually reflecting on how we see children, how we listen to them and how we create the conditions for their voices, ideas and learning to flourish. We look forward to continuing this journey together and sharing our learning with our community at our Showcase in November.

WOW Week (Week of Wellness) WOW Week (Week of Wellness)

During WOW Week, held in Week 5 of each term, we focus on one of our school factions, learning more about their saint and the value they represent.

This term, our focus is on MacKillop Faction and the value of Courage ❤️

Throughout the week, our staff Wellbeing Team has thoughtfully prepared activities and experiences to support student wellbeing while helping children explore what courage looks like in everyday life, including standing up for what is right, trying new things, persevering through challenges, showing resilience, and having the confidence to be themselves.

At school, we know that children thrive when their wellbeing is supported both in the classroom and at home.

During WOW Week, families can help reinforce these important messages by:

• encouraging children to step outside their comfort zones and try something new

• talking about times when courage helped them overcome a challenge

• celebrating effort, perseverance, and resilience

• supporting children to learn from mistakes and keep trying

• recognising and praising acts of bravery, kindness, and leadership

To conclude the week, students will be permitted to wear free dress on Friday 21st August, with red as the main colour to represent MacKillop Faction ❤️

We look forward to celebrating this special week together as we learn from the example of Saint Mary MacKillop, who showed great courage, faith, and determination in serving others

Waste Free Wednesday Waste Free Wednesday

At St Brigid’s, we are excited to begin our Waste Free Wednesdays as part of our commitment to caring for the environment and “loving our Earth.”

Each Wednesday, we encourage all students and staff to bring a waste-free lunchbox and avoid any plastic wrapping. Together, we can make a big difference… one small change at a time!

✅ Ideas for a waste-free lunch:

• Pack snacks and lunches in reusable containers

🚫 What to avoid:

• Plastic bags, cling wrap, or foil

• Disposable bottles and juice boxes

• Snacks packaged in plastic

Let’s work together to reduce waste and build sustainable habits for our children.

♻️ Saving the planet one Wednesday at a time!

Thank you for your support!
