Welcome Note Welcome Note

Hello and welcome to the Alumni Newsletter. It has been great this term to include some alumni in the life of the school as we held interactive sessions with Grade 12 students on what to expect once they leave KISC. There were three separate sessions, each covering different areas such as university applications and life as a uni student, and cultural challenges even if you have gone back to your passport country. We even covered some very practical subjects such as cooking, washing clothes and opening a bank account. The Grade 12s gave very positive feedback to the sessions. Thank you to everyone who took part – much appreciated!

This term at KISC has also seen Athletics Day, inter-school football and basketball competitions , and plenty of studying of course. Three Grade 12 students achieved the best results in their examinations in the whole of Nepal. Nice work!

Sustainable KISC Sustainable KISC

There are various initiatives around KISC to reduce waste, increase recycling and generally improve the environment. The school has signed up to the international Eco-Schools programme and we have a creation care committee of staff and students, a gardening group and we are preparing a ‘sustainability audit’ to see what areas can be improved. In the KISC EQUIP work in Rukum a new project has just started that is raising awareness of environmental issues in our partner schools and among church youth.

We want to make sure that KISC is doing all it can to reduce our environmental impact and also be a model to our KISC families and the wider community. We would love to hear from you if you have any stories, tips or hints around creation care and sustainability that could help the efforts here.

Please contact alumni@kisc.edu.np with your suggestions.

KISC EQUIP KISC EQUIP

The KISC EQUIP team recently had a highly successful trip to Rukum, spending time in our partner schools there. As well as visiting the schools and encouraging the teachers, KISC EQUIP, in partnership with EduTech Nepal, was able to install ICT labs in two schools and then conduct training to staff and students in how to use the computers.

Did you know: ICT is a compulsory subject in the Nepal school curriculum and yet in remote rural areas like Rukum many students have to sit their ICT exams without ever having used a computer. KISC is trying to do something about that.

We need your memories! We need your memories!

The alumni programme has been in existence for just over a year. We don’t just want to be telling you about what’s going on at KISC but we also want to hear from you. It would be great to have your memories of KISC life – activity week, sports competitions, musical performances, crazy times, anything! Also let us know what are you doing now – where do you live, what does work look like, what’s life been like since you left KISC? Do you still meet up with ex-KISCers? Let us know alumni@kisc.edu.np. Don’t be shy.

TCKs TCKs

How do children adapt to life once they’ve left Nepal? Being a Third Culture Kid can be a super-power and a burden, as many of you will know.

Here’s some links to useful sites giving information and support to individuals and families.

For TCKs in the USA there's an organisation called Interaction International .

In the UK an organisation called Global Connections has a TCK forum.

And for Europe there's Euro TCK although their site hasn't been updated recently.

If you have any useful contacts for TCKs in other countries, please pass them on (alumni@kisc.edu.np) and they will appear in the next newsletter.
