Math 24

Congratulations to our 4th grade Math 24 team! They came in second place at last month's Math 24 Competition! Shout out to Purnayan Saha, Cash Holtzman, Gabe Reisch and Emmett Rowe! Purnayan placed second overall and will move onto the next round, competing against other students that attend schools in our IU. Huge thank you to our coach Cory Rowe!

Playground Use

To ensure our student safety, only students should be using the playground during school hours. Before and after school, we love when our playground gets used by families and the community. Please make sure younger/older siblings and AM/PM Kindergarten students not in school are not using the playground during the school day. Thanks for your attention to this matter!

Students must return the flyer to Mrs. Imes by Friday, April 10th. Upon return, Mrs. Imes will initial the official Hit the Books bookmark. Then, the bookmark will be returned with your child in an envelope along with an order form if you choose to order additional tickets.

PSSA update

Beginning on April 21st, Washington Heights will start PSSA testing in grades 3 and 4. This year, all PSSAs will be administered online. During this time, student iPads will remain at school to ensure they are here and charged for testing each day. Testing starts promptly first thing in the morning on all testing days (April 21-23; April 28-29), so please have your child here on time each day. We ask that you avoid morning appointments on these testing dates for students in grades 3 and 4. Should you have any questions, please contact our office.

Go Guardian Parent App

The GoGuardian Parent app is a mobile app designed to provide parents and guardians insight and control over their student's online activity when on school managed devices. When installed on a personal device, GoGuardian Parent will allow parents/guardians to:

  • monitor and view student browsing history

  • manage hours of use for devices outside of school hours

  • establish filtering rules and time limits (Please note: certain educational sites are needed for school; please work with your student to ensure you do not inadvertenly block sites necessary for instructional purposes)

Purple Up

As we approach the month of April, I would like to take a moment to recognize and honor the Month of the Military Child. This is an important opportunity for us to acknowledge the unique experiences, resilience, and sacrifices of students whose parents or guardians serve in the military.

Military-connected students often navigate frequent transitions, family separations, and new environments, all while continuing to engage in their education and school communities. Their strength and adaptability are truly commendable, and it is important that we intentionally recognize and support them.

To show our collective support, we will be participating in Purple Up! Day on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Purple symbolizes all branches of the military, and wearing purple is a visible way for our school community to stand with and honor military children. Wear purple to show your support on April 16.

Power Packs

This school year, we are partnering with New Hope Ministries to provide food for families in need over the weekend. If you are interested in this program or have any questions, please contact our counselor, Mr. Connell at JConnell@wssd.k12.pa.us or contact him via Seesaw.

Substitute Positions

If you're looking for a flexible and rewarding part-time position, the West Shore School District is actively looking for additional substitute teachers for the remainder of the school year. Whether you are a parent/guardian looking for more ways to stay connected or know someone in your family and friend circles who may be interested, please contact us! The Emergency Permit process allows candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in any field to serve as a Substitute Teacher. The District partners with Substitute Teacher Service (STS) to fill needs within the District throughout the year. Character Strong - Courage

Courage is choosing what is helpful, right and kind - even when it is hard or scary. I hope you take the time to talk with your child about our focus word during the month of April. I look forward to seeing our students practicing Courage this month and every month!
