May 3, 2026

Dear Dr. Green Elementary Families,

Welcome May and the upcoming weeks to finish this school year strong!

I would like to thank all students, teachers, staff and parents for your caring and thoughtful gifts in celebration of Principal's Day on Friday, May 1st. The cards the students made and wrote for me reflect happiness, love and trust. I read and loved every single one of them 💚.

Great News! Dr. Green Elementary will be opening a new Pre-Kindergarten for 3-year-old children. We are excited to expand our services to support our youngest learners. Children must be 3 years old by September 1, 2026, to qualify. If you know of a family who may benefit from this opportunity, we would greatly appreciate you spreading the word. Please contact our office for more information.

Student Registration Update: We kindly ask that you register your child as soon as possible. Timely registration helps our district plan for classroom capacity, staffing, and resources. Our goal is to have all current students registered by the end of this week.

Current registration rates:

  • District: 56.8%
  • Coronado Feeder: 52.2%
  • Dr. Green Elementary: 48.6%

As you can see, we continue to behind. Please do not delay—your prompt attention to this important task is greatly appreciated. A QR code linking to the online registration page is provided below.

Welcome to the month of May!

As we enter these final weeks, it’s hard to believe we are almost done with the school year. This is a special time to reflect on how much our students have grown in both reading and math. Thank you for your continued support at home—working together helps our students finish the year strong and confident.

🌸 Spring Reading Activities at Home

  • Daily Reading Time: Encourage your child to read for 15–20 minutes each day (books, magazines, or online articles they enjoy).

  • Talk About the Story: Ask questions like Who was your favorite character? What happened first, next, and last?

  • Spring Word Hunt: Look for new words while reading or around the house and practice using them in sentences.

  • Read Aloud Together: Take turns reading pages or paragraphs to build fluency and confidence.

🌼 Spring Math Activities at Home

  • Math in Real Life: Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division while cooking, Shopping, or setting the table.

  • Number Games: Play card games, dice games, or board games that involve counting, adding, or problem‑solving.

  • Fact Practice: Spend a few minutes reviewing math facts using flashcards or fun apps.

  • Outdoor Math: Count steps, measure distances, or collect and sort objects like leaves, rocks, or flowers.

Together, we can make these last weeks meaningful and productive. Thank you for helping your child continue learning and growing all the way to the end of the year!

Dear Dr. Green Elementary Parents,

Now that our students have completed the STAAR assessments, I want to take a moment to recognize their hard work and perseverance. Testing season can be challenging, and our students showed resilience, focus, and determination throughout the process.

While STAAR testing is behind us, learning certainly is not. The weeks ahead are an important opportunity to continue building strong math and science skills that will support your child’s success in the next grade level and beyond. Consistent practice—even in small amounts—can make a big difference.

Here are a few ways you can help keep your child engaged:

1. Encourage daily problem-solving:

Have your child explain how they solve math problems or describe scientific ideas in their own words. This strengthens understanding and confidence.

2. Explore online learning resources:

Khan Academy (free practice in math and science):

  • Khan Academy (Math & Science practice):
    https://www.khanacademy.org/

NASA Kids' Club (interactive science activities):

https://www.nasa.gov/learning-resources/nasa-kids-club/

National Geographic Kids (science articles and videos):

https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/

3. Connect learning to real life:

Cooking, measuring, observing nature, and asking questions about how things work are all great ways to reinforce math and science concepts at home.

4. Keep a positive mindset:

Remind your child that learning is a continuous journey. Mistakes are part of growth, and effort matters just as much as results.

We are proud of all our students and appreciate your continued support at home.

The Core Value for May is- Perseverance- Refusing to give up when life gets hard.

SAY IT:

Perseverance: Refusing to give up when life gets hard.

KNOW IT:

ASK A GROWN-UP:

• Tell me about a time in your life when you showed perseverance.

• When has it been hard for you to persevere?

ASK A KID:

• Can you think of some ways you can show perseverance at home or school?

• What is the toughest thing about showing perseverance?

SEE IT:

We can all admit that sometimes life gets hard. It is difficult to keep on working on a goal when we face challenges or setbacks. If you have ever watched the Ice Age movies, you have been entertained by the antics of Scrat, the saber-toothed squirrel who is obsessed with getting an acorn that keeps getting away. Gather the family around and watch Scrat demonstrate amazing perseverance in this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAmIHa-Rztg. While it is funny to watch Scrat chasing after his acorn amidst challenge after challenge, we can all agree showing perseverance when things get hard isn’t usually that much fun.

BE IT:

Take some time as a family and write down some goals. These could be fitness goals, educational goals, household projects, saving for a big purchase or vacation, or maybe just a goal to spend more quality time together. Create a poster or vision board to display the goal for the family to see every day. As you are working together to reach this goal, talk about the challenges you are facing and how you can work together to refuse to give up no matter how hard the challenges get. Continue to work together as a family to show perseverance as you encourage each other to keep working hard even when life gets hard.
