Academy Announcements
Dear Academy Families and Friends,
Happy Groundhog Day! Looks like 6 more weeks of Winter!
January is now behind us and the second half of the school year is underway! We're seeing steady and positive growth across the grade levels in our benchmark data! Here are a few more announcements as we begin the month of February!
- A special thank you to the AAPC for the Prismatic Magic Assembly on Monday! The program was a good mix of music and science to show students the amazing world of lasers!
- We also want to thank Mr. Doo and the students from the Asian Student Alliance who visit Academy and shared the traditional celebrations of the Lunar New Year!
The winter "I walk to School Day" as part of the safe routes to school program is on Wednesday, February 5th. For this round we'll have only two routes, Legion Field and Essex Street as the sidewalks will be in the best condition for larger groups! Let us know if you'd like to be a line leader and help with the Walk!
We've seen absences jump up these past two weeks due to the cold and flu season-Please see the following message from Nurse Ali.
Let's kick off the second half of the school year with gusto! Thanks for all your support!
Mr. Higgins
A Message from Superintendent Melanie Curtain
Dear Weymouth Families & Staff,
We are reaching out to clarify and reassure you about recent changes to federal immigration policies and to reaffirm our dedication to providing a safe and supportive environment where every student feels they belong.
Below we have highlighted specific protections for our school community that have been confirmed by the state Attorney General’s office:
- We do not ask for students’ immigration records as part of our registration and enrollment process; in fact, Massachusetts law does not permit us to do so.
- We do not coordinate with federal agencies regarding immigration matters, and we do not allow federal agents to access WPS facilities under any circumstances without a criminal judicial warrant signed by a federal judge.
- We do not share student records or other personal information with federal agents, except in rare instances when a court order or parental/guardian consent is provided.
If you have any concerns or questions regarding these policies or how they may impact your family, please reach out to your student’s principal or school counselor.
Sincerely,
Melanie Curtin
