Eagle Press
Eisenhower Elementary

October 11, 2026
On Monday, we had the joy of celebrating our September SOAR Students! These outstanding students were recognized for demonstrating our SOAR expectations—Safety, Ownership, Acceptance, and Respect—and for being positive leaders in our Eisenhower community.
During our special SOAR Breakfast, students shared examples of how they SOAR each day, enjoyed a delicious breakfast together, and had some fun creating a fall craft. We even had a surprise visit from SOARY, our school mascot, who flew in to help us celebrate!
We are incredibly proud of these amazing student leaders and the positive example they set for others. Congratulations to all of our September SOAR Students—keep SOARing, Eagles! 🦅💙

Eisenhower's Fun Run Kick Off Update
Our Eisenhower Fun Run is this Friday, and we are getting so close to our goal! Thanks to the incredible support of our students, families, and friends, we have already raised $12,095 toward our $15,000 goal — more than 80% of the way there!
Let’s see if we can not only reach our goal, but exceed it! We have lots of exciting prizes and celebrations planned for our students, and there is one especially fun incentive on the line: if we reach our $15,000 goal, Mrs. Kapanka will go through a HUMAN CAR WASH!
Keep sharing our Fun Run with grandparents, family members, friends, and neighbors. Every donation, big or small, helps us get closer to our goal and supports special opportunities and experiences for our Eisenhower students.
Let’s finish strong, Eisenhower! Together We SOAR!

Book Fair News
Eisenhower's Book Fair is coming October 26-30th. If you are interested you can preorder Diary of Wimpy Kid or Dog Man books.

Second Step
As you know, in September we kicked of the Second Step Curriculum in all K-8 classes to further strengthen our social and emotional learning. Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with a variety of social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Ike to support our students. Combined with our schoolwide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development. This week, each grade-level will begin a new unit. Please view the grade-level home links below to learn more about what your child is learning and how to support them at home during the second unit of Second Step. K-5 Unit 2 home links
October is Red Ribbon Month
Red Ribbon Week: October 23–31
2026 Theme: “Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free.™”
Red Ribbon Week is a time for schools and families to encourage healthy, positive choices. At Eisenhower, our celebration will begin Monday, September 28 and continue throughout October, leading up to a week of activities from October 26–30.
Wear Red Mondays: Students are encouraged to wear red on September 28 and October 5, 12, 19, and 26. We’ll also share Red Ribbon announcements on those days.
Learning and activities: In HEART classes, students will discuss healthy habits and positive choices and make a pledge to live drug free. Students in grades 1–6 will complete the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs unit during October. All students and staff will receive red awareness bracelets to wear during Red Ribbon Week. Each school day from October 26–30, five students wearing their bracelets will be randomly selected to win a prize—25 winners in all!
Spirit days, October 26–30. -SEE BELOW...
Poster contest: Students in grades 4–6 may choose to create a Red Ribbon poster. HEART teachers will collect entries, and winning posters from each grade will be displayed in the district during November.
Thank you for helping our students make healthy choices and celebrate Red Ribbon Week!

Halloween Around Eisenhower
- Parade: A short "Halloween Parade" will take place beginning at 10:00AM on Friday, October 30th. Weather permitting, we will parade out of the building and around the bus loop. Our Y5s & kindergarten students will lead the parade around each classroom and then out around the building. All are welcome to come and watch our costume parade outdoors!
- Classroom Activities: Classrooms/grade levels will be planning for Halloween activities and celebrations individually, either before or after the parade. If teachers request parent volunteers to help facilitate the classroom activities, all volunteers will have to submit a Background Check.
- Costumes: Students may come to school in costume on Friday, October 30th. They can stay in costume for the duration of the day. Costumes need to be school appropriate and cannot depict violence or excess blood/gore. No fake weapons are allowed in school (i.e. toy guns, swords, blades, etc). Costume masks can be worn for the parade, but not throughout the day. For costumes that have short skirts/shorts, leggings or pants need to be worn underneath.
Breakfast and Lunch Information
Free Breakfast & Lunch for All Students!
Michigan is continuing its commitment to providing free breakfast and lunch to all students during the 2026–27 school year!
While meals are free for all students, we still encourage every family to complete the Education Benefits Form: https://fraser.familyportal.cloud/. Completing the form helps Fraser receive additional funding and resources that support all students and schools.
Meal reminder: A required component of a complete breakfast and lunch is ½ cup of fruit or vegetables, which must be taken with the meal for it to be free of charge.
Find menus, meal information, and more details about what qualifies as a free meal on our website, https://www.fraser.k12.mi.us/programs/food-service.

Kindergarten LOVES to read
Our kindergarteners are loving learning how to read through our Bridge to Reading program. Bridge to Reading combines explicit phonics instruction with phonemic awareness lessons for a comprehensive approach to early literacy instruction. Through this amazing program, the kindergarten children can get many hands-on experiences to manipulate sounds into words. The students love learning new “letters and sounds” every week and applying these to their reading and writing! The children feel confident and motivated to learn with this engaging phonemic awareness program.
Daily Attendance
Calling in your child sick, an appointment or vacation? Please call the attendance line at any time of day at 586-439-6690. Utilizing the attendance line will assist our office staff with making sure attendance records are accurate.
If your child is tardy, it is district policy that when you drop them off you need to come and sign them in. Thank you for your support!

Restorative Practices for Parents
Restorative Practices is a relational approach to building community. In this three hour training, you will learn some of the theory behind Restorative Practices as well as some practical strategies to add to your parent toolbox that are already being used with your students in our schools. Whether you have a kindergartener or a senior, this training is for you!
The Restorative Practices training team consists of a classroom teacher (Luke Woods), a retired public safety officer (Lisa Pettyes), and a social worker (Tina Radulski). The team has been training staff in RP for over 5 years and will bring several different perspectives to the training.
There are two difrerent slots to sign up - one if you require child care and one if you will not. Please make sure to use the right category.
Training will be on November 4th from 5-8:30 PM in the Richards Middle School Media Center.
