Students will be expected to participate in a combination of synchronous and asynchronous instruction as determined by each individual teacher. Please see the instructions below:
- All students must log into their advisory Google Classrooms and answer an attendance question to receive credit for the day. Students who do not complete this question will be marked absent. In order to avoid technical delays upon login, we ask that students log their attendance as per the following schedule.
- 6th grade – 7:45 a.m.
- 7th grade – 8:00 a.m.
- 8th grade – 8:15 a.m.
Students who are late to log in should still answer the attendance question in their advisory Google Classrooms.
- Students are expected to follow their regular schedules and log into the Google Classrooms of each of their classes throughout the day. Teachers may provide a combination of live instruction and asynchronous work.
- If you have any questions or concerns regarding technology, please reach out to our parent coordinator, Linda Taccetta, at LTaccetta2@schools.nyc.gov, and she will forward your concerns to our technology team.

Arista requirements
Now that the school year is underway, we wanted to take this opportunity to remind you and your child of our Arista requirements. Please note that these requirements, along with other school policies and helpful information, are available on our website in our Student-Parent Handbook. This document can be found at www.is75.org under the dropdown heading ‘Students and Families’Please note the following excerpt from the handbook regarding Arista eligibility.
Membership in the Paulo Arista Society is reserved for students meeting all of the following requirements:
1. Scholarship – Academic average of at least 91.00% in each marking period with no grade, in any subject, below 80 or “S”. Please note that a course grade of 79 or lower precludes a student from Arista.
2. Citizenship – No citizenship grade below “S” in any marking period. Satisfactory* record of attendance and punctuality. (*See lateness policy in Honor Roll Section, as lateness impacts citizenship.)
3. Service – The attainment of at least 20 service credits per school year.
4. Attendance/Punctuality – Students absent more than 8 days per school year are precluded. (If medical documentation (from a medical office/practitioner) is provided, medical-related absences will not count toward the 8-day limit.) Also, students who are picked up early from school five or more times in a given semester are also precluded from this recognition. Excessive lateness (more than 5 in a given marking period) precludes a student from Arista.
All students who have met the criteria and would like to be considered for induction into Arista must complete an online application that will be made available in April. As a required part of the application, students must write a 2-4 paragraph description of a personal accomplishment from the 2026-2027 school year for which they are particularly proud. Applications will open on April 16, 2027, and will be due on April 21, 2027.
Service Credits
The following provides you with an outline of how service credits are handled within our school.
The outline is as follows:
· Students in each Advisory Class will have a student ID card which students will use to “swipe” at scanning stations to record their participation in school service activities such as school spirit days, classroom/library/office monitor service, and event attendance.
· For schoolwide events sponsored by the PTA, food drives, toy drives, and Junior Giving Circle student donations will be recorded by the supervising staff member and scanned into the digital service system.
· Students will have an opportunity to review their service credit status each marking period. The advisory teacher allows each child to track their totals accordingly. Service can also be tracked on Jupiter Grades. (further guidance regarding Jupiter will be forthcoming.)
· Students are required to achieve 20 service credits, along with a 91 average, exemplary attendance and citizenship, in order to qualify for Honor Society (Grade 6), Junior Arista (Grade 7), and Arista (Grade 8).
· Students can also achieve a Service Award, which is presented annually at the Service Award Assembly. This honors students who have in their career achieved 100+ credits (Gold Award), 75 credits (Silver Award) and 50 credits (Bronze Award).
· Students who volunteer their service outside of school, may bring in a letter of recognition of that service and present that to Mr. Herrmann in Room 339. This external service will be applied to their application for the Philanthropy Award in Grade 8.
· Service credits are only given for in-school service only.
Please see the list of service credits offered to our students during the 2026-2027 school year. The list may be subject to change and will be updated throughout the school year.

Service Credit Tracking Program
Service credits recognize students for participating in activities that support and contribute to our school community. They also help students track their progress toward Arista membership and, for our 8th-grade students, service medals.
The digital tracking system was a great success last year, and service credit information is available for students and parents to view through Jupiter Grades.
ID Cards🪪
Students should carry their ID cards with them throughout the school day and at school events so they can scan in when participating in qualifying activities.
- 6th graders: ID card pictures will be taken during the first weeks of school. Each Advisory will receive a schedule.
- 7th & 8th graders: Please bring and continue to use the ID cards you received last year.
- Lost cards: Students will receive one free replacement card.
Students will scan their ID cards in the cafeteria to receive credit. Students must participate in at least 50% of Spirit Days per marking period to earn 1 service credit.
For more information about the program and how service credits are earned, please read the enclosed letter. Any questions, please contact Michele Margiotta, AP Student Services/Staff Development 718-701-6343 or at mmargiotta@schools.nyc.gov
