SHRHS Alumni Awarded DCEF Grants for the '25-'26 School Year!
Several SHRHS Alumni were recently awarded Dudley-Charlton Educational Foundation grants for programs in the 2025-2026 school year. Here's just a few of the many projects funded by the DCEF grants awarded this year:
Kim (Canty) Lundquist's (Class of 1989) grant for "LED light table pads will transform a learning center into an engaging, hands-on activity that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and foundational skills. This project will provide young learners with a new and interesting tool to explore, discover, and grow within curriculum activities. This project seeks funding to purchase LED light table pads for my kindergarten classroom. These Light Pads provide hands-on, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experiences that foster creativity, fine motor skills, literacy, numeracy, and scientific exploration. By integrating LED light tables into the classroom, students will have opportunities to learn through play, discovery, and sensory engagement. Young learners thrive when provided with interactive, multisensory experiences that spark curiosity and support different learning styles. LED light table pads will offer learning exploration with letters, numbers, and shapes with transparent manipulatives as well as strengthen fine motor skills while tracing, sorting, and building. Light pads will offer opportunities for collaboration and communication by working together. Students will gain access to an innovative learning tool that supports differentiated instruction, nurtures creativity, and deepens conceptual understanding in fun and meaningful ways."
Kristi (Christensen) Jones (Class of 1998) aims to "help bring our physics labs into the modern era with new Vernier Go Direct sensor carts, force probes, motion detectors, and projectile launchers. These tools will give students hands-on experience collecting and analyzing real-time data as they explore motion, forces, and energy. The goal is to make labs more interactive, accurate, and engaging while helping students connect classroom concepts to real-world science."
Jennifer (Nelson) Kustar's (Class of 2002) grant is to fund the SHRHS Cooking Club: "When many of us were in HS, Foods and Nutrition was a class we would fight to get! It is still offered, but now it is also an after school club! This gives club members extra time to make more complex food items - maybe even Mini Beef Wellingtons - due to this grant!!! The club will be meeting twice a month - once to plan and once to cook! In the past we have made fried chicken, smash burgers, fancy eggs, and more! This year, due to the grant, we are hoping to make more complex dishes to enjoy ourselves and maybe even feed the admin in their late meetings!"
Adrienne (Schur) Daniels (Class of 2003) is working with two of her fellow colleagues to "engage approximately 130 fifth-grade students in hands-on science learning and community service through the propagation of spider plants. Each student will grow two baby spider plants (also called “plantlets”) while learning about plant growth, reproduction, and responsibility. The students will then decorate clay pots, create personalized cards, and design gift bags to present one plant to a family member and one to an elderly person in the community. The project nurtures scientific curiosity, artistic expression, empathy, and intergenerational connection."
Jennifer (Duval) McGrail's (Class of 2006) project is a "is to establish a wellness lounge with additional ways the support personnel team can come together and champion our high school students through the challenges of high school. The wellness lounge would be a comfortable, inviting, safe space for students to access when they need a place to regulate their emotions. The wellness lounge is a supportive coping strategy modeled after the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach. Allowing our students to begin to recognize the situations that cause them distress and appropriate coping strategies they can access to regulate their emotions and return to class feeling equipped to manage their day. The wellness lounge will be open during lunch and staffed by the Guidance Department/SAC Department, in order to offer students who eat alone, a safe place to access."

Tyler Aucoin, Class of 2010, is the Music, Comedy, and Movie Man!
A graduate of the Class of 2010, Tyler has released an acoustic album, written two novelettes, and has performed on the Comix Roadhouse stage at Mohegan Sun, which has featured acts such as Shane Gillis, Matt Friend, TJ Miller and so many others!
In February of 2026, the action-thriller, “77,” will be having its premiere in Lexington, Kentucky - which Tyler penned the screenplay for. In October of 2026, filming will begin in West Virginia for a moth man horror film that he also wrote the script for. Tyler is also working on his first novella entitled “Spinning”. Here’s a little snippet about the book:
Allie Ford is three weeks away from attending her first year in college. However, after spending her formative years surrounded by friends and family in a small mountain town, is she truly ready to leave everything behind and start over?
Tyler still continues to write music, in the hopes of releasing a second album in the future. He also continues to pursue comedy as a creative outlet. Some people will tell him that there’s not enough time in the world for him to do everything he wants, but somehow, he finds a way. Tyler hopes that his creative pursuits inspire others to follow their dreams!

Alli (Donais) Gionet ('20) Marches in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!
This Thanksgiving, Alli, along with other SHRHS Alumni, were given the opportunity to celebrate the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Alli shares:
"While teaching marching band here at The Hill after school keeps my music skills sharp, recently I was given an amazing opportunity offered through the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps of Nashua, NH, of which I am also a 2019 alumnus.
For their 70th anniversary season, we were going to march in the 99th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC as an alumni corps! Back then, I marched as a trumpet player, an instrument I had never played before but helped to bring home a world championship Open Class title alongside folks who became lifelong friends of mine. Now, six years later, I traveled down to the NJ/NY area for four days to rehearse with everyone as a group, which for many of us was the first time together in near a decade or longer for some of our older alumni.
As alumni from all over the country gathered, we worked to produce a parade tune and a "camera piece" to be played in formation in Herald Square on the Macy's Star, for what was recorded to be over 34 million viewers across NBC and Peacock!! I was also given the opportunity to march with a few other SHRHS alumni (Kelleigh Maisonet '09 and Julie Russell '11, pictured below), as well as my service dog, Cedar, who stole many hearts within the corps and is now going viral on TikTok for her involvement.
All in all, I am eternally grateful for the chance to march one last hurrah with the team that taught me so much that summer of 2019, and if I ever have to play "Jingle Bells" again, it will be too soon. I can't wait to take even more lessons back to my after school marching band students here at The Hill from this incredible program, and I only hope I can join in on their summer antics again as a volunteer real soon."
