MARCH HUSKIE HOWL
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I am delighted to share some exciting news with you all! We have just received approval to launch a Math Club at our school, adding another enriching opportunity to our Wednesday After-School program. Our dedicated teaching teams have carefully selected students to participate in this fantastic opportunity, aimed at nurturing and enhancing mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities.
We understand the importance of providing diverse learning experiences for our students, and we wish we could extend this opportunity to every child. If your child has received a call or paper invite, we encourage you to respond promptly to secure their spot in the Math Club. The program is scheduled to run from March 25th to May 2nd, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Please note that parents/guardians are responsible for student transportation from the club.
During Math Club sessions, our dedicated staff will engage students in hands-on activities, provide small group instruction, and offer one-to-one support to foster a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Our ultimate goal is to cultivate critical thinking skills and instill a love for mathematics in each participant.
For more information about the Math Club, please contact Ms. Renfro at vrenfro@isd221.net. We look forward to launching this exciting mathematical journey with our students!

NOTE FROM MUSIC
Music in our Schools Month
For nearly 40 years, March has been designated as Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®). Music has a lasting positive impact in our lives. The positive impact on music in the lives of our students lasts a lifetime. Therefore, the education and cultivation of music in our youngest members of society, our students, is paramount.
Every day, in classrooms and rehearsal rooms across our school district, music educators dedicate themselves to reaching all students with life-changing musical experiences. Parents, administrators, and the wider community often only see the wonderful results of music performances; however, we miss the months of practice and rehearsals and more importantly the learning process that takes place to make it all happen.
I encourage members in our community to acknowledge and celebrate music education as an essential part of every student’s educational journey. Thank you to the Shadow Butte Community for being so supportive of Music Education at Shadow Butte Elementary.
Mr. Dominick J. Conte
NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR
Happy Healthy Kids Tip
Siblings fighting again? Stay calm and take control of the situation. Let each child share their concern without being interrupted. Create a solution or compromise together that makes each child feel seen and heard.
Spring Break Tips
Spring Break is approaching quickly. With that can come some added stress for parents who work and can't take the week off. Here are some tips to help you as you prepare for that week off from preventchildabuse.org:
Make a plan! Try to still have some structure to your child's day. Still eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plan a day to read together, play outside together, play inside together. Include your kids in the planning so they can be excited about the activity.
Connect with neighbors. Plan a playdate with some friends from school, or other youth group. Meet at the park or at someone's house for some together time.
Lean on family and friends if you don't have time off. Spring break presents a unique challenge for working parents. If you’re unable to take time off from work, make use of family members and friends in your neighborhood that can watch your children while you’re at work. Situations like this are an example of why building connections in the neighborhood can be so important, not only for you but for other parents who might not have family or close friends nearby.
Take care of yourself! As parents it can be difficult to remember to take time to care for ourselves when we are trying so hard to meet our children's needs. Budget a bit of time for you to decompress and destress.
NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY
March Reading Logs have been sent home! Remember to have your child read and get those turned in so they can be entered in the drawing for a free book.
Reminder:
Roaring Readers are due by March 12th

Student Handbook
Student Handbook
*if you prefer a hard copy, we have copies in the office.
*Si prefiere una copia impresa, venga a la oficina para obtener una.
Attendance
We want your student at school! Attendance is so important to learning. A student who misses a single day loses 20% of the learning from that week.
Here are a few things to remember:
*Call the office or email sbeattendance@isd221.net to excuse your child if they are absent for any reason.
*If your child goes to the doctor, please ask for a note and submit it to the school. A doctor’s note will exempt an absence.
*We appreciate you calling the school and letting us know when your child is sick. While we mark the absence as excused, it is NOT exempt. These absences still count as absences. School attendance is vitally important to your child’s learning. We want your child to have all the tools needed to succeed.
Transportation Changes
- Please call in Transportation Changes to the office @ 208-365-0877 by 2:50 pm / Fridays 1:45 pm.
- If you need to check out your child during recess, we kindly request that you wait until the recess concludes or arrive before recess. This supports the safety of all students, as our duty staff can then focus on their designated supervision areas without any distractions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Parent Portal
Sign up Today for the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. A Parent Portal Account will give you access to pay for Lunches Online, view Student Attendance, view Student Grades (4th and 5th Grades), and receive School Correspondence. Call the School Office to be signed up and you will receive your User Name and Password to get started then you can download and use the mobile app.
Parent Pick Up Procedure
When pulling up in the pick up line DO NOT exit the car, if your student needs extra help, park in the lot closest to the school. This is safest method for all students and keeps the traffic flowing and from gathering on Idaho Blvd.
We ask that parents not park in the staff parking that is located on the corner of Idaho and Mesa so students and parents are not crossing traffic and in between moving cars.
Thanks again for helping us keep our students safe!
