School Life School Life

Time for school pictures! Another welcome sign that schools are getting back to normal operations.

Town Halls with the Superintendent

I am planning to hold a series of Virtual Town Halls beginning October 25 to get to know the community better. I will schedule the events at different times of the day and evening so I can fit into as many of your schedules as possible.

To shape the discussions, I’m launching a ThoughtExchange to gather topics you are most interested in. For those of you who have participated in earlier ThoughtExchanges, the forum is a way to share confidentially and to rate the thoughts of others. This allows the platform to find common themes of most interest to you.

Please know that this will not be a forum on masking or vaccines. I am looking beyond these COVID days and considering what long-term goals we can set as a district.

As a school district, we will always focus first on safety for students and staff. If you have questions about COVID, please contact your school.

Town Hall dates:

Monday, Oct. 25 from 9 - 10 a.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 6 - 7 p.m. (Spanish)

Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 1 - 2 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 1 from 9 - 10 a.m. (Spanish)

Monday, Nov. 1 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 2 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9 - 10 a.m.

Saturday, Nov. 6 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. (Spanish)

The Great Oregon Shakeout

The district will again participate in this annual earthquake drill, which takes place on the third Thursday of October.

Students learn earthquake preparedness including the “Drop, Cover and Hold” protocol and practice evacuation.

Families can learn about what they can do at home to prepare for the big one by visiting Oregon Public Broadcasting’s series “Unprepared.”

Inclement Weather

The leaves haven’t yet fallen, but we’re already planning for winter snow and ice. The annual Inclement Weather letter will be coming soon via ParentSquare.

The letter outlines how you can find out whether school operations are affected by weather conditions.

Community Salute Community Salute

We so appreciate the ongoing efforts of our fabulous PTA members to support our students! (Pictured) Memorial PTA members helped manage School Picture day by ferrying students from classrooms to the gym, lining them up for their turn in front of the camera, and primping hair and clothes as needed. Thank you, PTA!
