Mrs. Nabozny was honored as the Teacher of the Year. She teaches American History and World History at FHS and has been with the district for 27 years.
Officer Edmonds was honored at Police Office of the Year. He has served as the School Resource Officer at Fowlerville Community Schools for three years and 11 years of experience in law enforcement.
Congratulations to Dawn and Ryan! We appreciate all you do for the students of Fowlerville Community Schools!
Halloween Candy Safety Reminder
As Halloween approaches, please remind your children to wait until an adult has checked their candy before eating it. Read labels carefully and discard treats with missing, opened or damaged wrappers. Some edible products containing THC—the intoxicating substance in cannabis—use packaging with colors, names and logos that closely resemble familiar candy brands. These products can easily be mistaken for ordinary sweets and can cause serious harm to children.
Please also remind students not to accept or share candy from friends, even if it looks familiar. Instead, they should bring treats home for a parent or guardian to review. A quick conversation and careful review can help everyone enjoy a safe Halloween.
Celebrating Safe Schools Week October 19-23!
At Fowlerville Community Schools, the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. Safe Schools Week is an opportunity to highlight the many ways we work together to keep our students and staff safe. In this issue, we’re sharing reminders and resources on a variety of safety topics to help families stay informed and support safe habits at school, at home and in the community. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated safety team, administrators, teachers, support staff and local first responders for their ongoing commitment to creating a safe, welcoming learning environment. Their care, preparation and teamwork make a difference every day.
Be sure to check out the video highlighting some of those who make safety top priority!
Gun Locks Available for Pick Up at Central Office
Fowlerville Community Schools has obtained 100 gun locks available to community members at no cost through Project ChildSafe. Using gun locks and storing firearms unloaded in a locked location, with ammunition locked separately, helps prevent children from accessing them and reduces the risk of an unintentional shooting. Taking these precautions at home is an important way families can help keep our students and community safe.
The FREE gun locks can be picked up at Central Office between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM while supplies last. Please note, you cannot bring a firearm onto district property when you pick up the gun lock.
Bike Safety Lights and Belts Given Away
The program, Bike Lights for Michigan Nights, was made possible through funding from the Michigan Office of Highway Safety and Planning with support from the DALMAC Fund. Thank you to Ms. Dinkel and Officer Edmonds for your commitment to safety!
It's Also School Bus Safety Week
In addition to it being Safe Schools Week, it is also School Bus Safety Week! School Bus Safety Week is an opportunity to recognize the dedicated drivers and transportation team who help our students get to and from school safely each day. We thank them for their patience, care and commitment to our Gladiators, and for making each school day begin and end with a welcoming face.
As part of our continued focus on student safety, all FCS buses now have stop arm cameras to record vehicles passing stopped buses. Families can help by staying alert near bus stops, slowing down when yellow bus lights flash and stopping when red lights flash, and the stop arm extends. Please also remind students to follow their driver’s directions and use care when boarding and exiting the bus. Working together, we can help keep every student’s ride safe.

School is a Place to Belong
When we talk about attendance, academics are often the first thing that comes to mind. But there is another important reason to be at school: connection.
Students build relationships throughout their school day. Their teachers get to know them. Friendships develop. Coaches, counselors, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, office staff and other trusted adults become part of their support system. Those relationships help create a sense of belonging.
When students feel connected to school and know there are people who care whether they are there, it can make a meaningful difference in their engagement. Families are important partners in building that connection. Ask your child about the people they enjoy seeing at school, what they look forward to during the day and what they are learning. If your child is struggling to feel connected, let us know.
We want every Fowlerville student to know there is a place for them here.
FHS Celebrates Manufacturing Day and College & Career Readiness
Fowlerville High School (FHS) students recently explored exciting career opportunities in skilled trades and manufacturing as part of Manufacturing Day celebrations. Organized by the FHS Counseling Department, students visited Bekum America Corporation in Williamston for a guided tour of modern manufacturing operations, observing how engineers, machinists, and technicians collaborate to design and build complex machinery.
The learning continued at FHS with the Schools to Tools mobile field trip, which brought hands-on career exploration directly to campus. Students participated in virtual reality welding simulations, interactive equipment demonstrations, and activities that introduced them to real-world trade environments. These experiences helped students explore apprenticeships, technical training, and rewarding career pathways beyond the traditional four-year college route.
FHS will continue celebrating future opportunities with College and Career Week, featuring a College and Career Fair on Wednesday, October 21, during fourth hour in the Auxiliary Gym. More than 15 colleges and military representatives will be available to connect with students. Throughout the week, students can also participate in the Fight Song Challenge, Hot Seat teacher interviews, a future-themed “Would You Rather” prize wheel, and the “Future Me Will…” activity. A cafeteria slideshow will highlight participating colleges and military branches, helping students learn more about their postsecondary options.
Through these experiences, FHS is committed to helping every student discover their interests, identify future goals, and explore the many pathways to success after graduation. Whether students plan to attend college, pursue an apprenticeship, enter the military, or begin a career in the skilled trades, the goal is to help them make informed decisions about their future.
Junior High Athletics Update
Starting this year, both boy’s Junior High basketball and wrestling will be competing in the winter season before holiday break. Students interested in basketball and wrestling have to complete the registration process in FinalForms prior to starting practices/try-outs. If your child competed in cross country, football, or volleyball during the fall season, then they are already in FinalForms and ready to compete.
The Junior High volleyball 'pink out' game raised nearly $1000 during their recent fundraiser. The money will go towards the Sperry Memorial Scholarship which will be awarded to a graduating senior who has been impacted by cancer during their lifetime. Thank you to all who donated!
Updates from Fowlerville Elementary School
October is in full swing at Fowlerville Elementary School, and autumn has officially arrived! We have a busy and exciting month ahead, and we want to ensure you have all the latest details to keep your family prepared and informed. What’s ahead:
Halloween Parade: Mark your calendars for Friday, October 30 (weather permitting.) More specific details regarding parade routes, costumes and visitor procedures were shared in our building newsletter.
Picture Retake Day: Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 12. If your student missed picture day or needs a photo retake, this will be the time!
Dressing for the Chilly Weather: As a reminder, cold weather is officially upon us! Please make sure your student comes to school dressed in layers, including heavy coats, sweatshirts, hats and pants. We believe outdoor recess is vital for our students to burn off energy and get fresh air, so we will continue going outside each day unless it is actively raining or storming.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! In our last issue we shared ways to identify fake or scam emails. Today we share some tips on identifying phishing attempts or general scams.
- Watch for Panic and Urgency: Most scams will attempt to induce panic so that you are not thinking clearly.
- Guard Your Information: No professional organization will ever try to solicit private information from you over email or a phone call. If you are unsure, do not reply to the email or tell the caller you will contact them back via their official phone number.
- Be Aware of Suspicious File Attachments: Be especially wary of any file ending in .exe, .zip or even password protected PDFs
Following this guidance can protect you and your accounts from phishing attempts and scams.
Little Glad Early Childhood Center Updates
Little Glad Early Childhood Center has many events coming up!
Halloween Celebrations: Teachers have reached out to families regarding classroom celebration volunteers. To keep classrooms safe and comfortable, we are limiting the number of family members attending each celebration. Our goal is to give every child’s family an opportunity to attend at least one holiday celebration throughout the year.
Halloween celebrations will begin at 2:00 PM, followed by our outdoor Halloween parade at 2:30 PM (weather permitting.) The parade will take place around the walking track behind the building, weather permitting. All families are invited to the parade.
Stranger Danger Lessons: During the week of October 26, Mr. Jeff Soli, Fowlerville Community Schools Safety Director, will visit each classroom to talk with children about Stranger Danger. Through age-appropriate conversations, children will learn the importance of identifying trusted adults who can help keep them safe and what to do if they ever feel uncomfortable or need help.
