February may be short, but it carries a quiet depth. Between cold days and cozy nights, it offers space to slow down, finishing lingering books, beginning new ones, and savoring stories one chapter at a time. It’s also a natural moment to pause and set gentle intentions for the year ahead, noticing what we’re drawn to and how we want reading to support us in the seasons to come.

Happy Reading! 💕😍 📚

Reading Lately Reading Lately

This month, I leaned fully into feel-good and romance reads, soaking up all the love February has to offer. Theo of Golden was exactly what I needed and earned my first five star rating of the year. It’s a gentle, tender reminder of the power of being truly seen and heard—and how even the smallest acts of kindness can ripple outward in meaningful ways. This Book Made Me Think of You and With Love, From London were both delightful contemporary romances centered around books-about-books and the beauty of second chances, two of my favorite sub-genres. To round things out, I squeezed in a psychological thriller that was especially wonderful on audio and a crime mystery, proof that a little suspense pairs surprisingly well with all that romance.

Theo of Golden By:Allen Levi

As a reader who is easily distracted by new releases and all the “buzzy” books of the moment, I couldn’t ignore this one, as I kept seeing it everywhere on social media. After finally reading it, I now understand the hype.

Theo, a quiet elderly man, arrives in the fictional town of Golden and stumbles upon a display of ninety-two hand-painted portraits of local residents in a coffee shop. Moved by what he sees, he decides to purchase the paintings one by one and personally deliver each to its subject. What unfolds is a series of heartfelt encounters. With every visit, Theo offers more than a gift, he offers his attention. He listens as each person shares the story of their life, their struggles, and their joys.

It’s a gentle, tender reminder of the power of being seen and heard and how even the smallest acts of kindness can ripple outward in the most meaningful ways.

In the world we’re currently living in, this is exactly the kind of story that restores your faith in humanity. If you’re looking for hope, love, and a reminder that kindness still exists, this book is for you. I gave it 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 on the devour scale.

This Book Made Me Think of You By: Libby Page

Here’s to another buzzy book making its rounds on social media, and yes, I completely fell for it. I devoured this contemporary romance in four days, stealing every spare moment I could just to read one more chapter.
The story centers on Tilly, a young widow living in London, still reeling from the loss of her beloved husband, Joe. Six months after his passing, she receives a call from her local bookshop with unexpected news: Joe arranged for her to receive one book a month, each one carefully chosen and accompanied by a handwritten letter. With every new month comes a new story and a gentle nudge from Joe, encouraging Tilly to step outside her comfort zone and try something new.
As Tilly works her way through the books and the letters, we watch her slowly begin to live again. What unfolds is a tender journey through grief, growth, friendship, and the possibility of loving someone new without forgetting the love that came before.
If you enjoy stories about second chances, friends-to-lovers romance, and heartfelt, feel-good reads that remind you healing doesn’t mean letting go, then this one is absolutely for you. I gave it 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 on the devour scale.

With Love from London By: Sarah Jio

This gem of a novel was our book club’s February pick, and while I might not have chosen it based solely on the title and cover, I am so glad I gave it a chance.
Told in dual timelines, the story moves seamlessly between past and present as we come to know its two central characters. In late 1960s London, we meet Eloise, a young woman torn between two great loves. Ultimately, she follows the man who sweeps her off to America, setting in motion choices that will ripple across decades. In the present day, her estranged daughter, Valentina, learns of her mother’s passing and returns to London only to discover she has inherited her mother’s beloved bookshop.
As the timelines intertwine through heartfelt letters, a scavenger hunt, and a satisfying final reveal, I found myself looking for every spare moment to return to the pages. This story beautifully explores complicated mother-daughter relationships, the weight of long-buried secrets, and the healing power of second chances.
If you’re drawn to friends-to-lovers tropes, stories of redemption, and novels about bookshops and the magic of books themselves, then this is a book for you. I gave it 🤩🤩🤩🤩 on the devour scale and read it in four days.

My Husband's Wife By: Alice Feeney (Audio Book)

Listened to this one! I absolutely enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down, devouring it in just five days. It opens with the chilling line, “Everybody lies and everybody dies,” immediately setting the tone for what’s to come. Alice Feeney’s newest mystery thriller delivers exactly what readers expect from her, sharp twists, mounting tension, and that constant sense of unease.
Eden Fox returns home from a run to find another woman in her house, claiming to be her husband’s wife. From there, the story spirals into a dizzying rabbit hole, unraveling a dark web of deception, gaslighting, and long buried secrets. Just when you think you have it figured out, another layer is pulled back.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers that keep you guessing until the very end, this is a book for you. I gave it 🤩🤩🤩🤩 on the devour scale.

Good People By: Patmeena Sabit

When this one came in as a library hold, I knew it had to be my next read and I’m so glad I managed to squeeze it in before the end of the month.
The novel explores the life of a prosperous immigrant family in the aftermath of an unthinkable tragedy, examining how public opinion can both shape and distort the truth. What makes this story especially compelling is its structure. Each short chapter is told from a different perspective from neighbors, reporters, and friends of the family. It's almost as if the community itself is on trial. Yet the central family, the Sharafs, never share their side of the story. We only hear about them from the other characters.
Like a game of ping-pong, the narrative moves back and forth, leaving the reader to sift through assumptions, biases, and half truths to decide what might have happened and who, if anyone, is to believe.
If you enjoy novels told through multiple points of view, stories that explore cultural identity, and layered family dramas that invite you to question perception versus reality, then this is a book for you. I gave this 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 on the devour scale.

A Love Song for RIcki Wilde By: Tia Williams

I read this book back in February of 2024 and found it to be the perfect book to end my February reading. The prologue and epilogue center around Leap Day, it’s a romance story, and there’s some Black History tied in. Set in Harlem NY, Ricki Wilde is determined to leave behind her family in Atlanta and open her own flower shop. Once there, she keeps encountering a handsome mysterious man who will sweep her off her feet. If you like books with magical realism elements, heavy romance, and bits of history mixed in, then this is a book for you. I gave it 🤩🤩🤩🤩 on the dawndevoursbooks scale.

Watching Lately Watching Lately

In between watching my Spartan basketball games and reading, I managed to squeeze in some shows to watch. I’m proud to say I’ve watched every single episode of Queer Eye since it first premiered in 2018. I dare you to watch and not tear up or at the very least walk away feeling uplifted. I’m so sad to see it coming to an end after Season 10, but the final five episodes were truly wonderful. I also started Season 3 of Shrinking, another feel-good favorite. Even while tackling serious topics, it consistently has me laughing out loud. (New episodes drop every Wednesday!) Finally, Season 4 of Lincoln Lawyer released all ten episodes this month. I’ve been savoring them one by one during my treadmill walks, proof that a good show makes the miles fly by.

Read Across America Day- March 2nd

Have you heard of Read Across America Day? When I was in the education world, it was always such a special day dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading. There’s something magical about seeing an entire community pause to honor books and the power of stories.

So you can imagine how excited I was to learn that there’s a program encouraging everyone, even adults, to stop and read for at least 20 minutes on this day. Of course, I signed up right away! I hope you’ll consider joining me. Let’s take a few intentional minutes to unplug, pick up a book, and celebrate the simple, powerful act of reading together. (See link below to take the pledge.)

Benefits of Reformer Pilates

For almost five years now, I’ve been a member of Club Pilates and that alone says a lot. Before finding reformer Pilates, I never truly connected with an exercise routine enough to stick with it long term. This one changed that for me. I feel stronger, more toned, and have more energy.

Recently, I took some time to dig a little deeper into the benefits of reformer Pilates, and I was pleasantly surprised by just how comprehensive it is. Reformer Pilates offers a low-impact, full-body workout that strengthens the core, improves posture, increases flexibility, and enhances balance ,all using a specialized machine with resistance springs. It’s gentle on the joints yet incredibly effective for muscle toning, joint stability, and even rehabilitation.

What I love most is that it challenges both the body and the mind. The focus and control required in each movement make it as mentally engaging as it is physically strengthening. And because it’s adaptable, it truly is suitable for all fitness levels.

If you’re local to me and have ever been curious, I’ve included a link below to claim a free introductory class. It just might just become your favorite workout too. (There are also several franchises across the US.)
